Volume 4 Issue 4 ~ November Issue
Dear Samuel Ogle Middle School Families,
As we head into the second half of the semester, we have a lot to celebrate and look forward to here at Samuel Ogle Middle School. This newsletter highlights some important updates and reminders to keep us all on track for a successful academic year. Please read through for key information on attendance, upcoming events, and academic milestones.
Attendance Matters
The Importance of Attendance:
At Samuel Ogle, we believe that attendance matters—and not just for academic reasons. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform better academically and socially. Consistent attendance allows students to stay on top of their lessons, engage with their peers, and take full advantage of the opportunities that school provides.
Chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or more of school days) can have a significant impact on a student’s academic progress and their eligibility for school activities, including incentive events and extracurricular programs. We are closely monitoring attendance to ensure all students are set up for success.
Impact of Chronic Absenteeism:
We understand that there are times when students may need to miss school due to illness, family matters, or other unavoidable situations. However, we encourage parents to help students attend school consistently, unless there’s a legitimate reason for absence. Missing school too often can lead to:
Falling behind in assignments and coursework
Missing out on valuable classroom activities and instruction
Ineligibility for participation in school-related events, such as incentive programs and sports
We want every student to succeed, and regular attendance is key!
Basketball Season: First Home Game on November 18, 2024
We’re thrilled to announce the start of our basketball season at Samuel Ogle, with our first home game taking place on November 18, 2024. Whether you’re a player, coach, or fan, we encourage everyone to come out and support our athletes. This is an exciting time for our school community, and we look forward to seeing our students showcase their hard work and dedication.
We hope to see a great turnout from our families, staff, and students to cheer on the team and create a vibrant school spirit!
The First Quarter Report Cards & Honor Roll Assembly:
The first quarter of the school year is officially over, and Report Cards will be distributed on November 18, 2024. This is an important milestone in our academic year, and we encourage you to review your child’s progress with them. If you have any concerns about their performance or would like to discuss their progress, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teacher or schedule a meeting.
We’re also excited to announce the 1st Quarter Honor Roll Assembly on November 22, 2024. This is a special event where we recognize students who have achieved academic excellence in the first quarter. If your child is being honored, be sure to celebrate their hard work!
Revised…Please see letter below:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Samuel Ogle MS has made a decision to change our 1st Quarter Honor Roll Assembly date.
The original Date was Friday Nov. 22, 2024.
Due to some of our neighborhood elementary schools having their honor roll assembly on this same day we will be rescheduling ours for December 16, 2024. Being considerate of multiple schedules for families, we want to provide enough time for your personal schedules to be adjusted if you wish to attend the assembly. Report Cards are available on ParentVUE today and they will be distributed on November 26, 2024.
7th Grade Field Trip to the Franklin Institute: November 25, 2024
We’re excited to announce that 7th-grade students will be going on a field trip to the Franklin Institute on Monday, November 25, 2024. This hands-on learning experience will allow students to explore science and technology in an interactive, fun environment.
We encourage students to come prepared for a day of exploration and learning, and we hope this trip sparks curiosity and excitement for science! Please be sure your child has returned the permission slip and any necessary forms to ensure they can attend.
Thanksgiving Break: November 27-29, 2024
Thanksgiving Break is just around the corner, from November 27 through November 29, 2024. This time of year is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with family and friends. As we enjoy this break, let’s remember to give thanks for all the positive contributions to our school environment and to reflect on the things for which we are grateful.
Please note that school will be closed for these days, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on December 2, 2024.
Reminders:
Stay On Track with Schoolwork: With the first quarter behind us, it's a great time for students to reflect on their achievements and set goals for the next quarter. Encourage your child to stay organized, complete assignments on time, and seek help if they’re struggling.
Supportive Learning Environment: We are committed to providing the best learning environment for all students. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We’re here to support you and your child’s success.
