SECURITY UPDATE
In an effort to ensure the safety of all our students as they leave school each day, we would like to remind all parents that we are happy to facilitate changes to students’ travel and transportation plans PRIOR to 2:30 pm each day. We are not able to make changes to home travel plans any later than this time. We appreciate your understanding as we work to make the end of the school day less hectic and stressful for everyone.
We would also appreciate your support in helping our students get to their buses at the end of the school day. Our K-2 students are walked out to the buses or the front door each day with their grade level teachers just prior to the dismissal bell at 2:45 pm. All other students need to be sure they are on their buses right after school as we strive for a 2:55 pm leave time each day. With shortened days and possible slower travel times, we are striving to have students walking home from their bus stops prior to the sun setting. Leaving each day on time will help everyone arrive home safely.
January is a district wide focus on Digital Citizenship. RESD utilizes the Common Sense Curriculum taught by classroom teachers at the elementary level and by 7th period teachers in grades 7-12. You can find that curriculum at https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship/curriculum. Please consider taking time this month to ask your child what they are learning about digital citizenship.

Security Update - Officer Foust
Officer Foust and Officer Brad will be doing weekly safety tips to help educate parents and students. This week’s safety tip is about the website Omegle. It is a virtual chatroom where people can video chat strangers. It is advertised as “Chat with random strangers online- it’s fun, it’s a new experience every time.” Omegle is anonymous and there is little to no monitoring of who is on this website. I caution parents to keep your children off of Omegle, there is a lot of adult nudity, and other content that our children do not need to be exposed to. There has also been sex trafficking, kidnapping, and exploitation of children linked to this website. Please monitor your children’s social media usage and talk to them about the dangers of Omegle.
