Hungate Echo
Spring Term 1, Week 1
A word from Mr Broom
It's been an incredibly cold first week back and I'm delighted that we've been able to open to all pupils each day. A special thank you to our estates team for this, who have worked so hard to make our site as safe as possible.
Meanwhile in school, many classes have seen their Spring Term learning journeys get off to a flying start with their project launches. Seeing Mr Rushworth, Mrs Butterfield and their team dressed up as airline staff, ready to take the children on an adventure, was definitely a highlight for me! The children had a super time and learned lots at the beginning of their journey.
We also pushed out a survey around expanding our Nursery provision and thank you to everyone who completed it. We're now in the process of pulling a business case together and are hopeful to update you all soon on the plans for September 2025.
Have a super weekend everyone.

Weather Appropriate Clothing
Please could you ensure your children are sent with a warm coat every day as well as a hat, scarves and gloves if required. We have children coming to school with no coats or wearing only a fleece. Children must have a coat as we are outside for both break and lunch time and wearing only a fleece or jumper/cardigan is not acceptable. Please ensure all uniform is labeled, this includes hats, scarves and gloves.
Spring Term After School Clubs
Please see below clubs running this Spring term, some have started and some start on 23rd January:
KS2 Cheerleading Tues - started 7 Jan until 11 Feb - this club is full and has a long waiting list. If anyone signed up and has changed their mind please advise the office, so we can offer the place to a child on the waiting list. If a child doesn't attend for 2 weeks in a row without advising us why (eg ill/appt) we will assume they no longer want to attend and will give their place to another child.
Y6 Homework Club - Tues - ongoing.
Y4/5 Make £5 Grow Club - Thurs - starting 23 Jan until 27 March - full with a waiting list.
Y1/2 Drumba - Thurs - starting 23 Jan until 27 March - still some places left, we have opened up to those children who did Story Club last term, if there are still places available on Friday 17th we will then open up to those who did Cheerleading last term as well.
There will be a further sports club after half term and more different clubs in the summer term. More info to follow

PFA Volunteers
Call for Volunteers and Main Members: Join Us at the PFA!
The Sherburn Hungate Parent & Friends Association (PFA) is actively seeking enthusiastic volunteers and dedicated main members to help organise and execute various events throughout the year.
Whether you’re a parent, a community member, or just someone eager to get involved, we welcome you to be a part of our growing team. Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our initiatives and the well-being of the school community.
Why Volunteer or Join the PFA?
1. Make a Positive Impact: As a volunteer or main member, you’ll have the chance to directly influence the experiences of students, teachers, and families by helping create memorable events and supporting educational initiatives.
2. Strengthen Community Bonds: The PFA is all about building connections. Whether you’re a parent looking to get involved with other parents, or a community member interested in supporting local education, the PFA offers a welcoming environment where collaboration and teamwork thrive.
3. Personal Growth and Skill Building: Volunteering gives you the opportunity to learn new skills, whether it’s event planning, communication, leadership, or fundraising. Plus, it’s a great way to expand your network and gain valuable experience.
4. Fun and Fulfilling: The PFA organizes a variety of events that are both fun and rewarding. From school fairs to teacher appreciation days, these events offer an opportunity for you to contribute to something larger than yourself while enjoying time with others.
Key Areas Where We Need Help
1. Event Planning: Volunteers are crucial for assisting in the planning, organisation, and execution of events. From coordinating logistics to managing event booths, your support will ensure these activities run smoothly.
2. Fundraising: Fundraising plays a critical role in supporting the PFA’s mission. We need volunteers to assist with planning fundraising events, contacting potential sponsors, and helping with promotional efforts.
3. Communications and Outreach: If you have a knack for social media or writing, we’d love your help! Keeping the community informed about upcoming events, initiatives, and news is essential for engaging families and supporters.
4. Leadership Positions: For those who are ready to take on more responsibility, joining as a main member of the PFA offers leadership opportunities. Help steer the direction of our projects and lead committees that focus on everything from school spirit to academic programs.
5. Teacher Support: Many of our events are designed to support teachers and staff members. Volunteers may be asked to help create classroom materials, assist with special teacher events, or provide resources that help improve the school environment.
How to Get Involved
Joining the PFA or volunteering for our events is simple. Here’s how you can start:
• Sign-Up for Volunteering: Reach out to us via PFA@shp.starmat.uk to express your interest in volunteering for specific events or initiatives. Even a few hours of your time can make a significant difference!

• Become a Member: If you’re ready to take your involvement to the next level, consider becoming a main member of the PFA. By doing so, you’ll be more directly involved in decision-making and have a greater opportunity to influence the PFA’s direction.

Staff shoutouts are back for 24-25 and there's no better way of helping to keep our staff morale high than letting them know how you think.
