ZONES OF REGULATION
Hello Astro parents! I am Mr. Hersey and hopefully some of our scholars have come home talking with you about the Zones of Regulation. As District Mental Health Specialist at GWC, I work with students on Emotional Regulation utilizing this evidence-based curriculum. I have attached a link to provide you with more information about Zones of Regulation so that you may utilize the language with your scholars to further help improve their Emotional Regulation. Learning this skill will help them academically and behaviorally for life.
Feel free to contact me at the school if you have any questions at 859-422-0044 or theo.hersey@fayette.kyschools.us.
WELLNESS NIGHT
GWC would like to invite you to our annual Wellness Night! This event will offer Mental Health and Physical Health strategies to enhance your overall wellness. We will have our District Mental Health Specialist, Mr. Hersey, sharing some mental health information and our Physical education teacher, Mr. Helmburg, leading a pound fitness class! There will also be several vendors set up for additional outside support to help you take your next step in your wellness journey.
You don’t want to miss this!
FAMU SESSION COMING SOON
On November 21 from 5:30-7:30pm, the FCPS Family and Community Engagement Department will host Family University “Special Programs Parent Panels”. This event will be held at our Family Connection Center-North (1625 Russell Cave Road). This will be an opportunity for families across the district to come and hear from families who currently have students enrolled in our various district programs, and receive advice and guidance that will help them decide which schools to learn more about at Innovative Programs Showcase in the spring.
REPEATS
BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. It is our mission to prevent bullying all year round. Our school counselor, Kiara Powell, provides instruction during Guidance class to bring awareness to students and how to report to report bullying.
FAMILY RESOURCES
For questions or assistance, please reach out to Ms. Daniels, our Family Resource Liaison, at maryalice.daniels@fayette.kyschools.us
MORNING CAR LINE
As a friendly reminder, please do NOT drop scholars off on East Sixth Street. This is a significant safety concern. All scholars must be dropped off on Keller Alley where they can safely exit their car onto the sidewalk.
*Please do NOT park or block driveways on East Sixth St. Our goal is to be good neighbors and to alleviate any undue stress on residents.
VOLUNTEERS
Fayette County Public Schools and GWC invites families to participate in our educational community! We need all kinds of volunteers to help make sure our scholars have an enriching experience in the classroom and beyond. For more information about volunteering in FCPS, please follow this link.

ATTENDANCE
It is important that your scholar is here daily. When scholars are absent they miss important academic content. Equally, tardies have a negative impact upon your scholar as well and cause a disruption to the learning environment when arriving late.
Did you know?
- A child who is 10 minutes late misses 32 hours a year of lost education.
- A child who misses 1 day a week loses 2 months a year of education.
- Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to 1 full year of lost education.
Please make every effort to have your scholar here and on time daily!
- If scholars are not in their classroom at 7:45 a.m., when the bell rings, we kindly ask that you check them in through the front office.
- If your scholar is absent, please make sure you send in an excuse and/or parent note, within three days, at which time the absence will be marked as excused.
- Keep in mind that you are allowed 10 parent notes per year.
