The Northern California Bigfoot (the biggest, hairiest & most elusive of the mythical bigfoot creatures) continues to challenge you with new & improved adventures in 2024!
https://bigfootadventurechallenge.com/
Although some may challenge the existence of Bigfoot, our Bigfoot Adventure Challenge participants know that Bigfoot loves to have fun on our awesome trails. This year, our wild, hair-covered friend challenges us to adventure on our mountain bikes down the new Igo Trail in Swasey, on our gravel bikes along the Pit River near Big Bend, and on the PCT near Castella—and new this year—Bigfoot is challenging us to bring our dogs along for some short adventures!
Some keys we want you to think about as your plan your 2024 Challenge:
Challenge Start & Finish: April 1–May 31
3 Routes | Win 2024 Socks
Complete 3 routes in one of the challenges (MTB, Gravel, or Trail) and win socks (one pair per participant) and a challenge sticker (one sticker for each of the different challenges you submit a passport for). Please note that it is any three routes on the passport that are organized from less challenging to more challenging. All Routes | Win 2024 Blackout Hat
Complete ALL the routes on one of the three challenge passports and win our cool Bigfoot Adventure Challenge hat.Trail Challenge
Please note that the Trail Challenge is intended to be completed by running, hiking, walking, and combinations of all of the above.Plan Your Adventure
It’s very important to note that our designed routes can be completed in a way that works best for you. Our mapping includes a trailhead start, BUT you can start your adventure anywhere along the best route for you. We are fortunate in Redding and our other Challenge communities that many of our routes can be started from your home, work location, and/or favorite coffee shop without driving to the actual trailhead. Start your adventure from the comfort of your home, intercept our mapped route at the best location for you, substantially complete the route, and check the box on your passport.Route-Ready
Make sure that you check the route pages on our website, as we will note whether we think the route is ready for you. We are fortunate to live in an area where snow can happen on the valley floor, and rains can fill our creeks. Oftentimes, our trails aren’t fit for humans or Bigfoot; plan accordingly.Volunteer Work
Your shared trail experience with Bigfoot doesn’t come without some trail-building and maintenance fun. Throughout the course of the Challenge, there will be opportunities for you to do some volunteer trail work with the Redding Trail Alliance. Visit their Get Involved Page for more information and/or your local trail steward partners, including Trinity Trail Alliance, The Watershed Center, the Mount Shasta Trail Association, and SORA. A day of trail volunteer work allows you to check one of the boxes on one of your passports without actually running or riding that route—what a deal for those of you who dread the Lemurian Long!Drawing
Each passport submitted (MTB, Gravel, and/or Trail) enters you into a drawing for a local adventure store gift certificate. You must be present at the Closing Party to win.Junior Challenge Adventure Kit
New this year, we are awarding our junior adventurers an adventure kit with some fun Bigfoot-related adventure tools. Don’t miss out!Dog Adventure Challenge
New this year, we have added the Dog Adventure Challenge. All routes are short, intercept water, and fun for dogs and humans. The passport earns your dog a cool prize!
