Message From the Principal
Dear Families,
It’s been another week of this new, strange reality. I hope this message finds you healthy and happy. It’s not the same here at Chain Lake without our amazing students! I miss their enthusiasm, ideas, and smiles. We have been working hard as a staff to connect with all of our families and students while supporting everyone to the best of our abilities.
A bright spot in my days has been seeing many of you at lunch pickup. Seeing the faces of students through the car windows has been so wonderful! This week, we also have been passing out learning packets to those who don’t yet have access to our online learning menu and/or who want some offline options as well.
As a mom, I am feeling many of the same feelings I know you are in this new world of learning from home - worry of the unknown and a challenge with balancing the needs of my kids with work. It has been hard with my own 1st & 3rd grader’s learning at home in terms of knowing how much is too much or too little, where to push, where to let things go...all the while not being in the same room as them. I take deep breaths throughout my day and try to keep my perspective, knowing it is all ok. I’ve been encouraged also by seeing my kids’ willingness to learn independently and try out new ways of learning. Kids are so resilient, and we are all learning and growing together. Please know the staff here at Chain Lake are here to help and support your learn-from-home journey. We are in this together!
This week we began deployment of our chromebooks (high school seniors were first), with the goal of getting devices in all students’ hands by the end of next week. All Chain Lake students will be welcome to pick up chromebooks at Monroe High School on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Watch your email for specifics around timing. All of our devices have been cleaned and they will be distributed systemically.
Next week is Spring Break. I encourage your family to take a break. Because of Spring Break, our school district offices will be closed, and our school’s office will be closed. Please note, however, lunch service will continue at our designated sites, including Chain Lake, and is free to all children 18 and under. Please keep in mind, due to Spring Break, it is unlikely you will hear from your child’s teacher next week. I hope you have the opportunity to take some time to relax, refresh and get ready for the next learning opportunities! A menu just like this week's Educational Resources will be posted for the week after Spring Break.
Take care of yourselves and each other!
Warmly,
Ana
SECOND STEP
Our first “skill for learning” in Second Step is Listening. Our listening rules are:
Eyes watching
Ears listening
Voice quiet
Body still
Ask your student what Listening looks like in their school. Have them demonstrate what a “listening body” looks and sounds like. In addition to the above, here are some of the things they might talk about or show you:
Focus on the person’s words
Don’t interrupt
Ask questions to find out more
Repeat what you heard to show you understand
See below and watch your email for further updates regarding Chromebook distribution.
Greetings From Your Specialists
Our wonderful specialists - Mr. Christy, Miss Coburn, Ms. Glaze, Mrs. Moyer, and Miss O'Brien - miss our Cheetahs SO much!! Click on the attachments below to 'see' them and check out their messages!
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Mitchell
Hi Chain Lake Cheetahs!
As you know, we are taking a break from being at school so that we can make sure everyone stays healthy. I know some of you might have questions and even be a little unsure about what is happening. I want you to know that this will pass and hopefully we will be back in school soon! In the meantime, here are a few things you can do for yourself.
Stay healthy. Practice good hygiene. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and wash your hands with soap and water.
If it is nice outside, go outside for a bit. Go for a walk, ride your bike, color with chalk, anything to get some exercise and fresh air.
Work off some of that energy. Breathe in fresh air and take deep breaths.
Keep up with your schoolwork.
Help around the house, do your chores. Parents love help around the house!
Be Kind to your brothers and sisters. And mom and dad too! Kindness counts!
Talk to your parents or guardians if you are worried about anything.
Write a letter, or draw a picture for someone. It’s a great time to practice your art skills.
Play a board game or cards with your family. Have family time as much as possible.
Lastly, don’t worry too much and just be a kid. Play, laugh and be happy.
See your soon,
Mrs. Mitchell

Monroe School District's Tip Reporting Service
Safety is our top priority. That is why we use SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting system that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration in four different ways:
Phone: 360-799-5419
Text: Text your tip to 360-799-5419
Email: 1003@alert1.us
Report tips on bullying, intimidation, harassment, safety issues, fighting, safety concerns, or other issues of concern.
And now 'there's an app for that!' Open the attachment below to learn more about the new app feature.
Anyone may easily report tips on bullying, harassment, drugs, vandalism or any safety issue of concern. Tips may be submitted anonymously, too. Thanks in advance for helping to keep our school community a safe place to work and learn! Together we do make a difference.
