Decatur Public Schools is the only public school district offering a FREE Montessori program in central Illinois. This unique educational opportunity provides children with the nurturing environment necessary to foster independence, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning, closely aligning with the Montessori philosophy. Last week, the school community came together to celebrate the birthday of Maria Montessori, the visionary founder of the Montessori method.

This recognition not only commemorated her groundbreaking contributions to education but also highlighted the district's commitment to making Montessori education as an option for students in our community. Montessori Academy for Peace is a DPS magnet school, which interested families must for their child to attend. Applications open December 1 - January 31 each calendar year.
