Dear Parents and Families,
It is a busy time at Midland with our spring testing season. Our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are taking their state Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) and all students are being tested on end of year expectations for reading and math fluency and problem solving. The data that we gather informs us in our next steps for each student, and for our overall education programming at Midland for next year.
Next week is Student-Led Conference Week. Your child will have the opportunity to tell you about their progress toward their goals this year, and they will have work to show you. I hope you have already scheduled your conference time with your child’s teacher. I look forward to seeing you in the building!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dawson

It is very important that your child attends school on his or her testing days and gets a good night of sleep the night before!
State testing is required by law, so if your child is absent, they will miss additional classroom instruction time to make-up the assessment.
Spring Conferences Next Week
We are looking forward to welcoming you!
Our students are prepared and excited to share with you the progress they made this school year. We hope that every parent will join their children at their student led conference
Monday, May 20th ~ Thursday, May 23rd.
Please be sure your conference appointment is scheduled.
Spring Allergies
Prevention is key when addressing seasonal allergies. To alleviate and prevent very bothersome symptoms, please administer your child's medicine prior to their school day or whenever you scheduled time frame is. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your HCP for specific care.
Midland Library Book Fair

May 20-23, Open before & after school
Stock up on summer reading material! Research shows that students who don't read over the summer can lose valuable skills. Keep your child reading this summer with new books!
Immunization Clinic
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Mary Bridge Mobile Immunization has partnered with our school district to assist in meeting state standards for required vaccinations. This is only for our current 5th grade students. This is FREE of charge. Most students entering 6th grade do NOT have an updated Tdap as this shot is not given until after age 10. The Meningitis, HPV, Hep. A and Influenza will be available as well, ALL free (if not previously received). Immunization Clinic is May 22nd 11:00-4:00 The Boardroom at the Administration Building, located at 315 129th St. S. Tacoma 98444.
There are 2 forms to fill out for your child to be able to be vaccinated. These forms are available through the Midland Health room. Again, this is a free service. If you’d like your student to have this available vaccination, please call Midland Nurse at (253) 298-4523 to request the forms and they will be sent home with your “soon to be” 6th grader!
Student Travel Survey
Heads up! The 2019 Student Travel Survey from the @WSDOT and @WADeptHealth will be starting up in April. If you are a parent of a child in K – 5th grade, you may get called to participate.
