April News
Dear Cook Hill Families,
Spring is officially here, and with it comes a season full of exciting events and opportunities for our school community. As we welcome the warmer weather, we look forward to celebrating and engaging with our students and families in meaningful ways.
To begin the month, we recognize Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd, and we invite all community members to wear blue to show support as we Light it Up Blue for Autism Awareness. Students who wish to contribute can bring an optional donation that morning. We appreciate your participation in spreading awareness.
Our Cougars Read Together event reaches its grand finale on April 7th. We have several fun in-school activities planned for the students that day. The excitement continues in the evening as we gather with families at the Wallingford Public Library from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM to celebrate our shared love for reading. We can’t wait to see you there!
Another important date this month is April 10th, when we will hold our second day of Spring Conferences. These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to discuss the remarkable progress our students have made. We are always grateful for the chance to partner with families in their child’s education.
As we move further into April, we look forward to a well-deserved Spring Break from April 14th through April 18th. This time allows our students and families to rest, recharge, and enjoy quality moments together. We hope everyone makes the most of this break!
April also brings the celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd. This is a fantastic time to encourage our students to appreciate the beauty of our planet and think about ways to take care of it.
Reflecting on the past month, we had a fantastic turnout for our First Book Forum on March 25th, where we discussed The Anxious Generation. The conversation provided valuable insights into the impact of the transition to a phone based childhood on our children’s development, mental well-being, and overall learning experiences. We are thrilled to welcome even more families for the next session on April 29th at Parker Farms from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. This forum will provide us with a wonderful opportunity to share ideas and plan how best to support our students as they navigate this increasingly digital world. We want to emphasize that families did not have to attend the first forum to join this one, nor is reading the book required to participate. We appreciate the enthusiasm and engagement from our community and look forward to another successful gathering. Click HERE to sign up for the forum
With the arrival of spring, students will be spending more time outdoors, taking in the fresh air and engaging in active play. These moments allow them to develop their physical and social skills. We are excited to share in this wonderful time of year with our entire school community.
Thank you for your continued support in making Cook Hill Elementary a vibrant and nurturing environment for our students. We look forward to a fantastic April together!
In collaboration,
Mr. Munroe and the Cook Hill Team

Cook Hill Spotlight 🚨
Kindergarten Adventures
The Kindergarten classes spent one morning last week looking for early signs of spring during their KinderTinkers adventure. The kids loved exploring their new science materials which include a journal, magnifying glass, and binoculars. The classes did find some early signs like buds on a tree, snowdrops, and crocuses. These findings were recorded in their journals! The kids then participated in a STEAM activity where they designed, built and tested kites.
Celebrating our Students
In March, and all year long, we celebrate all students and what makes them unique, amazing, and inspiring! We are so lucky to have such a diverse school community where there is so much to celebrate each and every day!
Proud Cougars
