Cougar Courier
Greetings from Dr. Garcia!
September 21, 2019
It was a wonderful week at CIA! Our scholars are learning and growing every day, and we encourage you to talk to them about what they are learning. This upcoming week we will be celebrating College Go Week, and it's never too early to start discussing college with your scholars. Remember that all scholars should be reading at least 20 minutes silently and 10 minutes aloud at home.
School News:
On Monday, our volleyball team will be taking on the LaSalle Lions. Both teams are undefeated and it should be a great match up. The game will be held at Clay International Academy at 5:00 pm.
Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants from the University of Notre Dame will begin working in some of our classrooms this week. We are so excited to partner with these amazing scholars who will be teaching about their culture and language.
We are half way through quarter one and progress reports were handed out to students in grades 1-8 this week. Please take a moment to discuss your child's progress with him or her and use Powerschool to check their grades weekly. If you need help accessing Powerschool, please let us know.
College Go Week begins on Monday. On Friday, we will allow scholars to wear a shirt representing their favorite college. Students are still required to wear uniform bottoms.
Spirit Week will be September 30th-October 4th. Students will be able to pay a small fee to participate in spirit week and all proceeds will go to our volleyball team's Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser. Their goal is to raise $2500, and they have already raised over $800. More information will be shared in next week's Courier.
Book Fair is Coming Soon! Ms. Simpson will be hosting a book fair in the library from Monday, Oct. 21 to Friday, Oct. 25. The book fair will also be open during Parent-Teacher Conferences that Wednesday. Students will get to come to the book fair with their class during that week to browse and shop. In addition, any day that students actually plan to make purchases, teachers can send them with a pass. We are using Follett Book Fairs, and a flier will come home next week with information on the options you will have to help your scholar make purchases, including pre-purchased gift cards for them to use specifically at the fair. Any proceeds from the fair will go to making purchases for our library. Anyone who is interested in volunteering to help run the book fair, and who has a background check completed, should contact Ms. Simpson by calling the school or sending her an email at dsimpson@sbcsc.k12.in.us. Remember... the best way to improve a child's ability in reading is simply to actually READ!
