December is now upon us and we are now in the final stretches of Semester One with only six more weeks before the last days of classes. Our Students Union has planned a number of activities and spirit days through the month of December to get into the spirit of the season.
The Exam Schedule for Semester One is included below. Please do not schedule holidays during exams. Also, please note that Diploma Exams and Provincial Achievement Exams (PATs) are government exams that can not be moved. If you are a parent of a grade 12 student writing a Diploma Exam, the decision to grant an exemption from a Diploma Exam is made by Alberta Education and is a complicated process for extreme situations, with no guarantee of being granted. We will work with those parents and students who need to request an exemption to get the information into the hands of Alberta Education.
Preparation is the best way to help your child reduce any type of stress around exams. I encourage students to use their TA time to access teachers and focus on maximizing this time to their benefit and also to set goals around attendance. Consistent attendance is key in building student confidence in their learning - absences result in gaps in learning and stress. A focus on consistent attendance is a worthy goal for students over the remainder of the semester. As always, you can reach out to your child's teachers if you have any questions.
A reminder that the last day of classes for students prior to the break is Friday, December 20th with classes resuming on Monday, January 6th. We wish all families a restful and enjoyable break and encourage you to take some time to disconnect and reconnect with you children!
Take care,
Myranda Shepherd

Athletic Updates
Nockbusters Archery Team
The Nockbuster archery program is up and running. We have 19 archers on our middle school team and 41 on our high school teams. We will be teaching how to score the week of Ded 3rd, then bringing out our new 3D targets the week of Dec 10th.
On Tuesday Dec 17th we will be hosting a bring a parent to archery night, where our archers can bring a parent or guardian to practice and teach them how to shoot. Coaches will provide drinks that night and our archers can bring a potluck of chips, snack, cookies, squares and dips so we can all celebrate our time together before Christmas break.
On Feb 7th and 8th we will be hosting our archery tournament. If there is anyone willing to donate any kind of door prize we would certainly appreciate it. We traditionally host over 300 plus archers from throughout the province for this event. Thank you in advance if you are able to donate anything.
Basketball
Our high school basketball season is now underway. Please check out our calendar on our website for home game dates. We will also be posting all home games in our Week at a Glance.
Wm. E. Hay Partners with Points West - Adopt a Senior
Wm. E. Hay is partnering with Points West and their Adopt a Senior Program this year. Each TA class has 'adopted' a senior and will purchase them a gift this Christmas.
News from the Outreach Campus
We participated once again in the Red Rose Campaign with Judy Lefluer and one of our students, Tori Andrews. Each year Judy comes and grabs a student and they volunteer and deliver roses to businesses on Main Street. These roses are in memory of those who have lost their lives due to domestic violence.
Report Cards and Parent Teacher interviews have happened. If you need a copy of your Report Card please call 403-742-3609 and we will get that to you ASAP.
Remembrance Day Ceremony was beautiful again this year as our staff and students went over to the main campus to take in the ceremony. Thank you to Tori Andrews for laying the wreath for the Outreach Campus.
Heartland Youth Center has been coming in and having sessions with our students weekly. The students enjoy these sessions, the food, the conversations and activities in their individual binders. Thank you HYC!
In art class, Mrs. Jack and the students made homemade poppies, snowman palettes, and wooden Christmas ornaments. Check out the pictures of their amazing work!
In foods, Mrs. Hawkins and Rory made chocolate chip cookies, banana chocolate muffins with Everett, and coconut chocolate cookies with Sam, Indee and Everett.
We have been volunteering this month with the Seniors banquet, serving coffee/tea at the hub and then we were offered a nice turkey meal to eat once we were done serving.
Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact your teacher.
