3rd Grade's a HOOT!
October 12 - 16, 2015
3rd Grade Update
Our class is participating in the Global Read Aloud. We will be reading Fish in a Tree and collaborating with other classes outside our school. We will be "Hanging Out" with another 3rd grade class in Lexington via Google Hangouts to share our thoughts and understanding about the book. I did this with my students last year and they really enjoyed the opportunity to share and link up with other classes. Hopefully your child will love the experience as well.

Don't forget to participate in the "Read Your Way to The Big Game" reading contest. Students have received information on this program. Be sure the books they are writing down are on their reading level.
Math
Our Unit 2 assessment will be Oct. 14. Students have the study guide and we will review in class for the assessment. In Unit 3, we will be working with Linear Measurement. This will include measuring inches and centimeters with a ruler and area and perimeter. Students should continue to work on their subtraction with regrouping skills. I will plan to be in the classroom Tuesday and Thursday morning by 7:00 for any students who would like to come in to get some extra help with this concept.
South Carolina History
We are moving along into Unit 3. In this unit we will learn about the first people who inhabited what is now South Carolina. We will learn about the different Native American tribes and how they impacted the development of the Carolina Colony.
Science
This week we will be learning about slow changes on the Earth's surface. This will include looking at erosion, weathering and deposition. Students will bring home their science book to read information that supports what we are learning in class. Our test on slow and fast changes is planned for Oct 20. Students will get a study guide this week to help prepare.
Other Notes
Don't forget to check and sign your child's agenda each night. Encourage them to write neatly so you can read what they should be doing. Every child should be able to communicate what they are doing in class.
Purple folders come home on Wednesday. Please make sure you are reviewing the papers and signing the folder each week. The folders are due back to school by Friday.
