Conferences are coming up! In next week’s RAP you will find a live link to a sign up genius where you will be able to pick a conference time for each of your children. Be on the lookout for that next Friday!
- In your child’s Friday Folder this week you will find a Partners In Ed (PIE) letter. If you know any businesses who might be interested in being our partner, please provide them with a copy of the letter. You will also find a permission slip for the Mizzou women’s basketball game coming up on November 11 that our whole school is attending. Please sign and return this slip sometime next week.
- Fall parties will take place in the afternoon on October 31. If you do not want your child to participate in fall party and they need to be in an alternate space during that time, please email Mrs. Brinlee and/or their classroom teacher.

Unit Notes
Unit A
- Reading: We have been working on story elements in fiction stories. Our focus has been identifying the characters and setting in a story and summarizing stories using the beginning, middle, and end.
- Writing: We are publishing our narrative stories this week, and we can’t wait for you to gush over your child’s hard work.
- Fundations (K- Mincke/Triplett): We continue to work on letter formation, rhyming, and using punctuation at the end of a sentence.
- Phonics (1 - Blades/Horn): We are continuing to work on short vowels and the high frequency words: for, jump, one, have, & no. We are also practicing building words and handwriting.
- Math (K- Mincke/Triplett): We are working on the attributes of circles and triangles and on representing/counting numbers in various ways. We have also practiced recognizing and building numbers in multiple ways using ten frames.
- Math (1 - Blades/Horn): We are continuing to work on addition and subtraction 0-10 and 0-20. We are also practicing addition and subtraction strategies.
Unit B
It’s almost the end of October so if you have completed your 20 days of reading, send in a signed calendar to earn the golden 20 B Buck. New calendars will go home next week. If you have lost your calendar, just email the homeroom teacher if your child completed 20 days of reading and they’ll still get B Bucks.

Unit C
It’s a Friday Folder week – check your child’s link!
Literacy: This week we read and compared a play version and narrative version of Wizard of Oz. We also practiced combining two simple sentences into a compound sentence using a comma and coordinating conjunction. Ask your student to give you an example of this.
Graves/Sandstedt Math Classes: We have completed Unit 2 which focused on multi-digit multiplication, partial product division and powers of 10. Students will be reviewing on Monday and taking the assessment on Tuesday. Practice, practice, practice math basic facts pretty please. Multiplying 396 x 54 is really tough when you don’t know 9x4 etc.
It’s Mad Scientist Fall Party time!!

Specialist News
Message from Ms. Roettgen, School Speech-Language Pathologist
October 22 was International Stuttering Awareness Day! Approximately 5 percent of all children go through a period of stuttering that lasts six months or more. Three-quarters of those will recover by late childhood. The best tool is early intervention. International Stuttering Awareness Day helps to educate people about stuttering, let people know that help is available, and promote research to find the causes of stuttering.
Shout Outs
Shout out from a Ridgeway Parent
Congratulations to Ridgeway Unit B students Elliot, Parker, Andrew, and Phoenix, and Unit A student Lincoln, for helping lead the Columbia Track Club Cross Country Colts to the age 8U boys Central Missouri Athletics Circuit Championship at Gans Creek on Sunday, Oct. 20! Elliot was also recognized on the podium as an individual for finishing seventh out of 120 boys.
We are so proud of these Ridgeway boys for working together to help their team earn this championship. This was the first time for some of them running a cross country distance (2K, about 1.25 miles) consistently through a season. Give them a high five when you see them!
