Happy Youth Art Month!
Youth Art Month is an annual observance held each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. To help celebrate our art program here at TES I created a virtual art gallery showcasing some of the projects our K-5 artists created this year. I will continue to add projects to this virtual gallery as we complete them. I hope you enjoy the art! -Mrs. Wadler

A Spotlight on TEF Grants in Our Schools
This month we feature programs in 4th and 5th grade!
TEF Grants in Our Schools
4th Grade - Ms. Capece applied for and received a grant for four programs through the Hunterdon County Parks: 1) Adaptations to Go: Learn fun facts about nature while discovering how animals survive in their environment 2) Rocks and Minerals: Discover the differences between “rocks” and “minerals.” Students will learn about the rock cycle and conduct a short lab experiment to identify three mystery mineral samples. 3) Recycling: Students will explore how recycling and conservation go hand in hand and how they can help improve the environment 4) Physics in Nature: Through practical experiments & group participation, students will experience various physical forces, and learn about how they occur in nature.
DATES: December 23 - Addaptations in Nature; March 9 - Rocks and Minerals; April 26 - Recycling; May 17 - Physics in Nature
A special thank you to The Burdi Family and Legacy Wealth Advisors for participating in the TEF Sponsor A Residency Program and funding the 4th grade Science Exploration with Hunterdon County Parks!
5th Grade - Ms. Amato applied for and received a grant to host a poetry residence with BJ Ward. Poet BJ Ward will introduce poetry genre and styles with the fifth graders. BJ's introduction to poetry gives all students the opportunity to explore their voice with creative writing while building their confidence with the writing process.
DATES: March 21st, 25th and 28th
Ms. Cain's Class Leads School-Wide Effort to Support the Open Cupboard Food Pantry
The fifth graders from Ms. Cassidy Cain’s homeroom worked extremely hard during the month of January 2022 to organize, promote, collect, and deliver close to 1,400 cans to the Open Cupboard Food Pantry in Clinton for the Cans for Compassion Campaign at Tewksbury Elementary School. “My students made posters to advertise the event and created a document for each class to count their cans,” explained Ms. Cain. “Then they collected and boxed up the cans and worked with our Police Department to have the cans delivered. I am really proud of them.”
In addition to teaching project management skills, the campaign showed the students how working together can generate a good outcome for the community. School Counselor Sheila Donovan said, “Each year the fifth grade homerooms develop and complete a community service project. Our goal is to develop life skills and empower the students to make a positive impact on their community.” She added, “This year for the first time we partnered with the local PBA department and were supported by Officers Matt Milone and A.J. Russo under the direction of Tewksbury Police Chief Tim Barlow.” The officers and students loaded up multiple police car loads of food and the Officers Matt and A.J. delivered them to the Open Cupboard. We look forward to continuing this partnership in future years”
Katie Lemerich, Principal of Tewksbury Elementary School, summed up the experience by stating, “Our students, Ms. Cain, Mrs. Donovan, and the Police coordinated what is likely our most successful Cans for Compassion Campaign to date. We have a 25 year history of this project and this year our team exceeded our expectations!”
CJMEA Honors Band Acceptance
Six of our talented and ambitious TES musicians were accepted into the CJMEA Elementary Honors Band. They will learn and perform music alongside musicians from 35 schools across Central New Jersey. Their concert is on Saturday, March 12 at 2pm, in South Brunswick. We know they will represent TES and the Tewksbury community brilliantly!
Pops Concert Field Trip
4th and 5th grade musicians attended the Voorhees High School Pops Concert! They enjoyed the Disney/Pixar theme including floating pianos, soloing saxophones and dancing string players. The students were able to ask questions about the instruments and music program at the high school. Here's to hoping we see some of our young musicians in this same high school concert a few years down the line! (Pictures below)
