Newline Interactive Board Refresher
Welcome to the first CISD Tech Newsletter of the school year! Today is a day to celebrate as school is off to a great start and soon we will settle in for the long haul. It will be fall break before we know it! The topic for this week is our Newline Board options for displaying your materials. Basically, there are 4 options:
Options to Display your Lessons on your Newline Board
1. Use the built-in browser on your board (Chromium or download Chrome from the App store).
2. Use a Chromebook and a USB-C cable
3. Use your desktop computer and HDMI + USB 3.0 Touch cable makes your display interactive
4. Use Screen Sharing
Each of these cables are available upon request.
Built-in Browser on your Board
Chromium vs Chrome
Placed side by side, it can be difficult to distinguish between Google Chrome and Chromium. The Google Chrome browser is the better web browser for general internet use. The best thing about using the built-in browsers is that you have complete mobility in your classroom. If you are a Firefox browser fan, it is available too. Remember that some programs work better in certain browsers, so try them out and find the one that works best for you.
Use a Chromebook and a USB-C Cable
This is a great option if you prefer to push out your instructional materials through a Chromebook. The USB-C cable connection will give you touch capability with your board and you still have the freedom of mobility about your classroom. There is one step that you will need to do to duplicate your Chromebook screen to share it with your board.
- Plug your Chromebook into the Newline Board
- Click on the time in the bottom right corner and a box will appear
- From the box, Click on the Settings (Cog/gear)
- Scroll to DEVICE >DISPLAY>ENABLE/TURN ON MIRROR IN BUILT-IN DISPLAY
Desktop Computer and HDMI + USB 3.0 Touch Cable
This option lets you display your teacher desktop to the board. The HDMI will share your computer display but it will not give you the touch feature. Adding the USB 3.0 will make it touch screen for the board. The disadvantage to this option is that your board has to be in the proximity of your teacher computer and that limits your mobility with the board. Please contact us if you need these cables. You have to tweak your display settings on your teacher computer to allow it to mirror to the board.
- Connect the HDMI + USB 3.0 Cables
- On your teacher computer, press the windows key and the P key
- A display option window should pop up
- Click on DUPLICATE to mirror your computer to the board
Screen Sharing with Newline Cast Display Note
There is one other option to display with Screen Share. You can use a code to share and display your screen and students can also display their Chromebooks to your board. The disadvantage to this option is the amount of WiFi traffic on the network. If there is a lot of WiFi traffic, your connection can be very slow. Using the USB-C cable is usually the more reliable option.
