Dear KDM Community,
Thank you for another great week at KDM! It was great to see so many participate in the district initiative, Week of Respect, through Spirit Days. I enjoyed learning about our students' favorite sports teams and superheroes.
On behalf of our community, I thank the Rockaway Township Fire Company for coming out for our annual Fire Safety Week. Kindergarteners and 2nd Graders were treated to a visit and an educational experience about fire safety.
This Monday, 10/14, schools will be closed for Columbus Day, but our staff will have in-service professional development. Our teachers will work on data-driven instruction, grade-level articulation, curriculum review, and more. We'll miss our students, but we'll be working hard to continually improve our practices.
Additionally, on Wednesday, October 16th at 3 pm, parents will have the ability to schedule their parent/teacher conferences on October 24th - October 28th. During conferences, teachers will have the chance to discuss your child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and strategies for their continued academic and personal development. Please read the KDM Parent Conferences 2024 to learn more.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend, and I look forward to seeing our students next week!
Warm regards,
Brian Rawlins
Principal

- Safety Alert: If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please do not drop them off in the parking lot and send them unescorted into the building. Either escort your child all the way to the building or follow the procedures of driving through the parent drop-off lane. Please help us keep your children safe.
- Late Arrivals to School: If your child is late to school due to a medical appointment, please provide a doctor's note so it will be considered an "excused tardy."
Parent Pick-Up Procedures: On the days that parents pick their child up from school, we ask that they email their child's teacher and our attendance secretary, Christina Markowitch (cmarkowitch@rocktwp.net) or Jude Wallin (jwallin@rocktwp.net) by 12pm. This ensures that your child is in the appropriate place for dismissal and eliminates confusion. Please use the visitor's spots in the front lot or the parking lot across the street.

Building Our Community
"The Rockaway Township Fire Department visited KDM to provide kindergarten students with essential fire safety education and emphasize the significance of life safety protocols. The students enthusiastically engaged with the firefighters, exploring their equipment and touring the fire engine." --Mrs. Guzzo and Mrs. Jagiela
"This week the 2nd graders were very busy. We had a visit from the Hibnerina and Rockaway fire department to learn about fire safety. We also worked with the 5th graders to plant bulbs just like Ms. Blossom's class in SuperKids. We had a lot of fun." --Ms. Lasnick!
We had a great time during Spirit Week wearing our favorite team jerseys and dressing like superheroes!
"What happens when you combine a little Science, Math, and Halloween???. . . .
A pretty awesome 4th-grade bulletin board!! The students completed a place value pumpkin as a culminating activity to their place value unit. In Science, we discussed transparent, translucent, and opaque. The children created Haunted Houses with windows displaying these vocabulary words. Spooktacular job 4th Grade!" --Regards From Your KDM 4th Grade Team
