Graduation and Beyond
March 2025 - Third Edition

Focusing on Post-High School Outcomes
Ohio's long term graduation requirements, as stated in Ohio Revised Code section 3313.618 requires students graduating in the class of 2023 and beyond to complete three pathways to graduation. These pathways are: credit requirements, competency, and readiness. It remains vital that students, their families, and all our partners in the education process are aware of these new more comprehensive requirements to earn a diploma in Ohio.
Furthermore, Ohio School Report Cards are publishing additional data on a variety of report-only measures regarding post-high school outcomes for all students. This data will include the post-high school paths of graduates and non-graduates from districts and schools across Ohio beginning with the 2022-2023 report cards. The data will include enrollment in two - and four- year postsecondary education institutions, participation in registered apprenticeships, military enlistment, and employment information. Eventually, the report card will contain information on post-graduate “gainful employment.”
Considering all of this, it’s also important to remember that “success” for students in post-high school can – and should – be measured in a variety of ways. As explained in the video “Success in the New Economy” by Dr. Kevin J. Fleming, "Today’s economy requires a comprehensive skill set that goes beyond traditional academic credentials. Employers seek candidates with practical abilities, technical expertise, and problem-solving capabilities. The data reveals a critical shift: knowledge alone does not guarantee employability."
