THE VIKING

THE PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear HCS Families,
It is hard to imagine that we have only 29 student days left of school…but who’s counting. As we approach the end of another school year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your unwavering support. This has been a fantastic year!
As we prepare to close out the academic year, we would like to share several key dates:
Wednesday, June 12th: Early Release Day - Please note that June 12th will be an early release day for all students. This provides us with an opportunity for end-of-year preparations and planning from 2-4pm.
June 13th: Half Day - On June 13th, we will have a half day of school for students. Dismissal will start at 11:30. Additionally, our 8th-grade graduation ceremony will commence at 3:00 PM on June 13th. Let us celebrate the achievements of our graduating students and wish them well as they embark on the next chapter of their academic journey.
June 14th: Last Student Day (Half Day) - Our last day of school for students will be on June 14th, which will also be a half day. We will have grades 1st-7th Move Up Day in the morning. Dismissal will begin at 11:30. This will mark the official end of the academic year for students.
Once again, we extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your unwavering commitment to our school community.
Best,
Suzan and Tim

CHAPERONE & VOLUNTEER FORMS
Would you like to attend a HCS fieldtrip with your child or volunteer to read in their classroom? If so, now is an excellent time to fill out your paperwork for clearance through the District. Once your paperwork is received, please allow 5-7 business days for approval. Once approved, the clearance is valid for 1 year. If you have not filled out the forms and been approved, you will not be able to go on fieldtrips/volunteer in a classroom.

FREE SUMMER MEALS!
We have an amazing opportunity to help families in our district bridge the food gap during the summer by providing 7-day meal boxes for free for any child 18 or under. The boxes will include everything needed to make 7 breakfast meals and 7 lunch meals for 1 child. They will be simple, delicious and nutritious. Again, these boxes are available for any child 18 and under. We are able to offer this service thanks to some recent changes in USDA regulations for Summer Food Service Programs. Please see this letter for more information about this exciting opportunity.

MORE FAMILIES NOW ELIGIBLE FOR CHILD CARE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Did you know The State of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for our program. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT?
Hey, friends and neighbors! Are you ready for an adventure?
EF High School Exchange Year is seeking awesome families like yours to host foreign exchange students for the upcoming school year. We need your help to make it happen! Please help spread the word about this amazing opportunity!
By hosting a student from a different country, you'll get to experience all the excitement and fun of learning about a new culture, while also showing off your hometown to an eager visitor. Plus, you'll be creating a bond that lasts a lifetime and making memories that you'll never forget!
Hosting an exchange student is a truly unique and thrilling experience that will broaden your horizons and give you a fresh perspective on the world. And who knows? You might even discover a new favorite food or hobby!
I am committed to finding a home for Lilly from Sweden because I think she will fit well in Vermont. The following excerpt is part of the reason why!
"I find such joy in seeing new surroundings, learning about foreign cultures and meeting new people. Nature have always enticed me too, I have grown up in a family where we value the environment alot and its where I've spent most of my time growing up. My mom works with forestry and we have always lived outside town near nature. I appreciate nature a whole lot and I enjoy activities like hiking and walking."
So what are you waiting for? If you're ready to open your home and heart to an amazing international student, reach out to me for more information on how to apply. You don't need to have high school aged kids. Several of my most successful student/family matches were with Carol Richman after she retired from HCS. It's never too late or too early to host. It's a matter of finding the right student to fit your family. Let's make this school year one to remember!

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
My name is Erin Bingham. I am the mother of 2 at HCS - a second grader and a preschooler. My youngest has a rare genetic condition, Williams Syndrome. I am interested in both creating a network of individuals who care for kids with special needs that can serve as a support and working together to establish a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) that would serve the entire district. SEPACs advocate for the interests of any child with any kind of special need at school. Although there is a commitment from CVSD administration, this is the first step in a long process to gauge interest and commitment, but there is no timeline yet.
If you are interested at any level in either connecting with others who support kids with special needs, or in understanding more about what would be necessary to start a SEPAC, please email me at bingham.erin@gmail.com.
Warmly,
Erin
