SPECIAL EDITION UPDATE: Garden Fundraiser

A BIG SHOUT OF ‘THANKS’ TO THOSE WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED SO FAR TO OUR GARDEN MANURE FUND…….WE ARE LITTLE OVER HALF WAY THERE!


However, we are not at total needed to fund this project. If you want to donate and haven’t as yet, we ask that you get your donation in by the end of July so we can order the manure…….no amount is too little or too big.


Here’s how you can help:


Ways to Donate:


· Personally hand your donation to one of the Board Members and they will get it to the Church.

· Put your check in an envelope marked "VEGETABLE GARDEN MINISTRY" + mark your check the same way and drop it off at the Church Office.

· Donate On-Line

at: https://www.smcchurch.org/give (there is a box for Vegetable Garden)

· Mail your donation to: St. Michael Catholic Church, 3713 Harwood Rd., Bedford, TX 76021 (mark FOR VEGETABLE GARDEN)


Again, our ‘future crops” Thank You and we Thank You! We couldn’t do this without you!

Events

While we are not able to host any "formal" gardening events, we encourage you to come out to the garden to get some sunshine & fresh air! Get some exercise watering & weeding!


A Board member will be at the garden during the times listed below.

  • Tuesday & Thursday mornings (7-9 am)
  • Saturday mornings (7a)


Please feel free to come out to the garden ANY time you would like! There is always, always work to be done :)

Good vs Bad "Lady Bugs"

Read on for some helpful bug facts from Marco:


  • If you see a hard red shell with black spots, you assume it's a friendly, beneficial and harmless ladybug that consume aphids and scale insects. But it could actually be a type of beetle (Asian Ladybug) that infiltrates your home, bites, and produce a foul-smelling odor.


How can you tell the difference?


  • Besides have similar wing markings (red with black spots) the Asian heads are black with small white cheeks.
  • The spots where the head and wings meets there is a small white 'M' marking.
  • Wing colors can vary from light orange to bright red.
