P.R.I.D.E. Assembly
P.R.I.D.E. Assembly
By, Marlowe Boxser
We were in the cafeteria sitting on the floor. First Mr. Chabola came on stage and said what was on the certificate and made a speech about the students that got the P.R.I.D.E awards. After the speech he called the teachers up to introduce the students in their class who got the awards. First it was 3rd grade teachers like Ms.Schnauss, Ms.Rothans, Mrs.Glassman, and Mr. Feeney. Next was 4th grade teachers like Mrs.Bickel, Ms. Randall, and Ms.Frias. Last but definitely not least the 5th grade teachers like Ms.Flores, Ms.Fulinara, Mr.Holman, and Ms liber.
After the P.R.I.D.E awards they did the awards for a math sight called i ready. After the awards for i ready they did the awards for reflections art competition. The categories were visual arts, photography, literature, music, and film. Go Sea Dragons!
PRIDE Recognition Ceremony
By Emma Carter
As people flooded into the Lin Howe Cafetorium on Wednesday November 20 a clear purpose for the upcoming assembly was now made clear; this was a P.R.I.D.E. recognition ceremony. The ceremony began with reading the P.R.I.D.E. expectations, then the people were called one by one, grade by grade, teacher by teacher, a total of 19 individuals were recognized for their representation of P.R.I.D.E. After this, the newly established I-Ready recognition began, peers were awarded for there success using the new education app. Finally, the last round of recognitions began; the reflections award ceremony, many were recognized for their entries of art ranging from visual to photography.

So Much to Be Proud of at Lin Howe!
By Elodie Larson
On Wednesday November 20th, 2024, the cafeteria, or in this case the “auditorium,” began to become full of the sight of kids, teachers and staff for a P.R.I.D.E. Recognition Assembly. It was not just any P.R.I.D.E. Recognition Assembly, however. It was also an assembly for the PTA Reflections Contest participants! Not only that, but the students who most actively participated on I-Ready from each class were awarded! This assembly was full of surprises! So many different skills and accomplishments were recognized, from perseverance to creative art work. The children receiving certificates all looked so proud of their hard work! Their smiles spread from ear to ear as they stood up one last time on stage to get the final quick pic from the sea of parents in the audience.

TK/K/1/2 Vocal Music Update November/December
TK/K/1/2 Vocal Music
Happy November! We have been having so much fun singing our winter-themed songs in our vocal music class. In music class during November, all TK/K/1/2 students have been practicing their awesome turkey moves with our song "Hey, Tommy Turkey." Many students already brought home an "Ask Me" sheet for Tommy Turkey as well as a Tommy Turkey map--ask your student to sing you this song and show you their creative turkey strut.
If your student is in TK or Kindergarten, we have been learning about and dancing to Trepak, the Russian dance from Peter Tchaikovsky's ballet, "The Nutcracker." Ask your student to tell you about the story of the Nutcracker, and to show you the jumps in their ballet dance! We also have been singing the song "Up Above My Head." What can you have above your head in the song? Look for the "Ask Me" sheet that was sent home this past week with these fun songs!
If your student is in 1st grade, we have been learning about and dancing to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from Peter Tchaikovsky's ballet, "The Nutcracker." Ask your student to tell you about the story of the Nutcracker, and to show you their magical scarf dance! This month, to honor Native American Heritage month, we have been singing "He he wanna wawate," a Dakota song. We also read the book "We Are Water Protectors," to learn more about the Dakota and Lakota people and their present-day activism. Look for the "Ask Me" sheet that was sent home this week that has lyrics to all of these songs.
If your student is in 2nd grade, we have also been learning about and dancing to the Chinese Tea Dance from Peter Tchaikovsky's ballet, "The Nutcracker." Ask your student to tell you about the story of the Nutcracker, and to show you their scarf dance! To honor Native American Heritage month, we have been singing We n' de ya ho (Cherokee Morning Song.) We have been learning about Cherokee culture by reading "We are Grateful: Otsaliheliga," by Cherokee Nation citizen Traci Sorell.
If you have any questions about the vocal music program, feel free to reach out directly to Ms. Koplinka-Loehr at: daniellekoplinkaloehr@ccusd.org

CCUSD Sponsor-a-Family December Holiday Program
CCUSD Sponsor-a-Family December Holiday Program
CCUSD recognizes that the holiday season can be stressful for families who are most in need. Again this year, CCUSD School and Family Support Services is coordinating various district-wide efforts to support our CCUSD families in need during the holiday season to increase the joy and lessen the stress.
At this time, we are excited to announce our Annual Sponsor-a-Family Program. The program will enable families/groups of families/organizations to provide gifts for a CCUSD family in need. Both families will remain anonymous. Prior to the Thanksgiving break, sponsor families will receive the list of wishes and needs for each member of one family. Our request is that the sponsor family/group of families/organizations purchase at least one wish and one need for each member listed. If you provide a gift card, please include the activation receipt. All gifts will be dropped off at the CCUSD District Office Annex (located on Van Buren between the Palihotel and Lin Howe Elementary school) on December 12 and 13. School and Family Support Services staff will distribute the gifts on December 17 and 18. If you are able to make the holiday season special for another family, please click on the link below and complete the form.
