News

Dear ChurchillCSD Families & Staff,
What a beautiful week of warm weather we had last week! It was wonderful to see our students outside enjoying the sunshine. However, in true Nevada fashion, the forecast is bringing us a mix of rain and even the possibility of snow showers this week. Please make sure your students come to school prepared with their coats and warm clothing to stay comfortable throughout the day.
Testing Continues This Week 🌟
Our middle school students will begin SBAC testing, and our high school students will be taking their science assessments. We know they have been working hard all year, and this is their opportunity to showcase their learning! Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and give their best effort. We believe in them and know they will do great! 💪
Looking Ahead: Spring Break & Year-End Countdown 😎🌞
We are now entering April, and Spring Break is just two weeks away! It’s hard to believe we have only eight weeks left until the last week of school. The 2024-2025 school year is quickly winding down, and we are already looking ahead to what next year will bring.

NAS Change of Command Ceremony
On Friday, May 28 it was a great honor to attend the Change of Command ceremony at NAS Fallon. One of the best parts was seeing Churchill County High School’s NJROTC program in attendance. NAS Fallon is an important and significant part of our community and our military connected students and families are a very important part of our school district. We will greatly miss Captain Tanner and we welcome Captain Hayman and look forward to his positive impact at NAS Fallon and in our community.
Regards,
Derild Parsons

Highlight from Assistant Superintendent Stacey Cooper 🌟
This past Friday, our staff dedicated their full day to comprehensive professional development opportunities. Teachers were able to participate in such sessions as Paper Tutor Online, Gang & Drug Awareness, SIOP, TRIBES, as well as ELA support K-12.
Our Churchill County High School math department engaged in a morning full of math curriculum presentations. The math department will be adopting a math curriculum for the coming school year, completing a two year initiative to place state- approved, research based ELA and Math curriculum K-12. This had been a long- overdue initiative, providing up to date resources and support for our students.
What a phenomenal day of learning for our professionals. This was a great way to end the week!

Students in Rhonda Maynes’ class spent last week learning about birds. They read a fiction book about a little bird searching for the perfect place to bathe and a nonfiction book filled with bird facts. As part of their learning, students expanded their vocabulary, practiced retelling stories, and wrote sentences about what birds can do, what they have, and what they are. They also used their imaginations and talked about what life would be like if they were a bird. To wrap up the learning unit on birds, students created bird-themed watercolor paintings, bringing their learning to life on paper.

LICE
We are all excited to be back at school! As we encourage children to learn and share, they also share things we don't want them to: Head Lice! We start seeing a lot of lice outbreaks at our schools this time of year. Please click the link below to learn how to identify lice and for information on what you can do if lice hits your home.
Bed Bugs
Winter seasonal changes bring about infestations and household inconveniences.
Bed bugs are a nuisance, but they are not known to cause or spread disease. They are usually
active at night and can irritate the human skin. The bite is initially painless, but it may become
swollen and itch, much like a mosquito bite.
The source of bed bugs often cannot be determined, as they may be found in many places,
including hotels, hospitals, theaters and schools. Finding a bed bug does not mean that the
building is infested. Adults & children can unknowingly bring bed bugs into buildings,
including schools. In response to this seasonal concern, Churchill County School District
continually works to identify pests, provide inspections of schools and have licensed pest
control specialists treat classrooms and schools as appropriate.
If you have experienced bedbugs in your home, we strongly recommend seeking professional
assistance from a qualified pest control company. If your child has any bites, you should contact your health care provider.
Further information on preventing bed bugs are available on the following website.
• U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) bed bug information

• Center of Disease Control (CDC) bed bug information
