Morning and After School Tutoring
St. James Middle School will be providing both a morning and an after-school tutorial program to assist students in improving academic performance. We highly recommend that students who are struggling in their core academic classes participate in the tutoring program. We recommend that children who have earned Not Met or Approaches on state assessments in the past also participate in the tutoring program. It is an excellent opportunity that provides additional instruction for your child.
Morning tutoring will be offered beginning October 28th, 2024. A future email will be sent listing the days and sessions that are available. At this time, various sessions in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies will be available from Monday through Friday. The time for morning tutoring is from 7:20 am to 7:50 am. There is no need to fill out a form for morning tutoring. Students who are going to attend morning tutoring are to be dropped off on the car rider side of the building prior to 7:20 am. Students must have their own transportation to school if they are going to attend morning tutoring.
We are offering two days of after school tutoring in addition to the morning options. In order to provide this opportunity as soon as possible, we will begin tutoring by parent pickup for the first couple weeks until the transportation department is able to set up the tutoring bus routes. Afternoon tutoring by parent pickup is set to begin Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. Bus transportation will begin shortly after.
The tutorial program is a district and statewide to improve students' academic performance. St. James Middle School will offer after school tutoring on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:50 pm to 4:50 pm. Parents are asked to fill out the online application at the bottom of this email. If you prefer to fill out a hard copy of one, they are available in the front office. If you anticipate that your child will be joining afternoon tutoring in the future, please fill out the form now. The program is open to all James Middle School students who attend classes at SJM, and it will focus on the grade level standards.
Please feel free to email me with any questions at nstillmak@horrycountyschools.net.
We hope your child takes advantage of this valuable supplement to instruction and thank you for your ongoing support!
