Announcements and Reminders
In 1978, Representatives Frank Horton, Norman Y. Mineta, Senators Daniel Inouye, and Spark Matsunaga proposed dedicating the first ten days of May to honor the achievements of Asian-Pacific Americans. President Jimmy Carter signed a resolution marking the first ten days of May as “Asian-Pacific Heritage Week." In 1992, President George H.W. Bush signed an extension, making the week-long celebration a month-long celebration known as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. In 2021, President Joe Biden expanded the name of AAPI Heritage Month to Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Resources to support this important month are available HERE.
