What change was made to the specialist schedule?
This school year, we will be using a rotating schedule for our special area classes (Art, Media, Music and Phy Ed) rather than a day of the week schedule. Instead of students missing their assigned specialist when there isn't a scheduled day off from school, the schedule will continue on to the next day that we have school. This means that sometimes a classroom may have media on a Monday, and at other times they may have it on a Thursday.
The Why behind the change is to allow for a better balance of class time throughout the year. Historically Monday and Friday classes are seen significantly less by special area teachers. As with any change this will take some time to get used to, but we feel that this will provide a better education for our students.
The calendar is below. Day 1 will be the 1st day of school.
School days cancelled due to weather will not change the schedule below.
Can you help with playground supervision?
We are looking to hire people who will be a good fit to supervise and support our students when they are on the playground.
Supervision is 11:15-1:00 and $12.36/hr. We have some flexibility in scheduling if candidates are not available every day. If you, or someone you know, is a good fit for this position please email Travis Olson at tolson1@isd77.org to learn more.
What does the Franklin staff do in the summer?
Why no bananas on Wednesdays?
Thank you for your help in this matter.
When will families receive '18-'19 NWEA & DIBELs results?
Please make sure to check your child's folder.

Mankato Area Public Schools uses an electronic flyer communication tool called “Peachjar.” Families who have their email on file with the school district will receive an email notification when a flyer is distributed. Another way to view school-approved digital flyers, simply click the Peachjar link on your school’s website homepage which will be located under “Family Information.”
This “green” initiative will save our schools paper and reduce copy costs. On top of that, posting school flyers in this electronic backpack removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers. You will receive a welcome email from our service provider (Peachjar) that includes a username and password. This is provided to give you the opportunity to manage your account and flyer delivery preferences. You do not need to login to receive or view school digital flyers. To ensure smooth delivery of this communication, we suggest you add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts. When you receive your first eflyer, be sure to click, “always display images.”
This system is used exclusively for distribution of school-approved flyers. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose. Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure families are well informed about school programs, activities, and events.
What's happening with the Family Academy?
Welcome to 2019-20 school year from Franklin Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). As a parent, legal guardian,or staff of students enrolled at Franklin Elementary School, you are a member!
How can you get involved at Franklin and with PTO?
1) sign up to volunteer at PTO events and let your child's teacher know you'd like to help in the classroom or on field trips,
2) attend PTO meetings and help us make decisions, and
3) support PTO financially through the Walk-A-Thon later this month.
Please complete the PTO volunteer form at https://forms.gle/3uwktgcpZgUcG2588 You'll be contacted about ways to help throughout the year.
You're invited to attend our first PTO meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 17 from 6:30-7:30 in the Franklin Media Center. At a PTO meeting, you can add your voice to any discussion and VOTE on any motion put before the group. You'll meet other parents and get a chance to interact with teachers and staff. It's a great way to hear about what is happening at Franklin and we often serve as a sounding board for Principal Olson.
Franklin PTO spends over $16,000 annually to support academics, fund field trips, build community, appreciate staff and fund student activities. The Walk-A-Thon is PTO's only scheduled fundraiser of the year and we hope to raise over $11,000. With those funds each classroom teacher will have $100 to spend on needed classroom supplies and materials, we'll pay for the much-loved rollerskating curriculum for all our students in physical education, help with field trip funding at each grade level, and so much more. Walk-A-Thon forms go home today in backpacks. You and your student will continue to learn more about the Walk-A-Thon in the coming weeks. We wanted forms to go home today so if you have family and friends from out of state, you can contact them about supporting your child and there's time to get checks mailed to turn in on September 24.
What are Franklin Fridays?
Franklin Friday is a chance for students and staff to wear Franklin apparel, yellow, or blue to show their Falcon spirit. Unless otherwise stated figure it’s Franklin Friday every Friday school is in session. In addition to community building, we hope it's one day each week where student and parent agree on a school outfit. Franklin Fridays are optional. Franklin apparel will be for sale at the October 10 Family Picnic Night from 5:30-7 p.m. We'll also offer families the chance to order apparel that isn't in stock later this fall.
What's the theme for our first all-school theme day?
On September 17, students and staff are invited to participate in Inside Out Day, so wear your clothes inside out!
School-wide theme days happen on the late-start Tuesday each month and are a fun way to show community spirit. Students do not have to participate, but it's quite fun to see staff and students dressed for the theme. The students in the classroom that raise the most money during this month's Walk-A-Thon will get to select the October 8 theme day.
What other Franklin events are planned?
For the most comprehensive list of events scheduled this year, check out Franklin's events calendar! (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B66RqCuyfo4VWEhSdm9UYXFwd1ZYS0xPYmZYcGhkM3BQOGZv/view?usp=sharing)
If you use Facebook, be sure to join the Franklin Elementary PTO group! (https://www.facebook.com/groups/183476102015128/) You'll be the first to know new things as they happen, can ask questions, and even win prizes by interacting.
What do I need to know about school picture day?
School pictures will be taken by Jostens this year on Thursday, September 19. Photographers will try to take 3-5 photos of each child. At a PTO meeting last year, we decided to try Jostens this year because:
1) Jostens photographers take more than one photo of each child.
2) Parents don't have to purchase until after pictures are taken. You'll get to review photos, select your favorite background, poses and more.
3) Photos are mailed to your home, so no longer will school photos be wrinkled in backpacks.
4) Parents can order at any time this year, so if you don't have the funds this month or want to send them directly to grandparents as a holiday gift, you have that option. You can order when it works for your family.
5) For families without adequate internet access, photos can be ordered over the phone by contacting customer service.
If you didn't get the photo of your child you were hoping for on picture day, retakes will happen on Thursday, October 10.
