SMS collected students' iPad devices during the school day on Tuesday, May 21st.

More than 120 SMS students still need to turn in their chargers. If you have your charger at home, please bring it to the SMS office between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. this Tuesday through Friday.

After this week we will send invoices to parents for the remaining unreturned chargers.

Our end-of-the-year assembly was last Thursday. We recognized athletes, club participants, and a few other accomplishments.

We also announced the seven "Dude, Be Nice" recipients. Please check out the slide show and video below for more information about these awards.

Scott 2 is pleased to offer the Summer Nutrition Program again this year. The meals, which are for children 18 years and younger, will be available at Vienna-Finley Elementary and Scottsburg Middle School. Vienna Finley pick up will be at door #2 on the west side of the building. Scottsburg Middle School pick up will be at door #8 which can be accessed via the bus/activities lot. You will be required to come to the door to pick up the meals.

Each meal will include one lunch for that day and one breakfast for the next morning. Meals can be picked up at either building, but there is a limit of one meal per child per day. There are no adult meals available.

When you arrive to pick up a meal for the first time, you will receive a paper that should be completed and submitted to the pick up spot.

The first day for meal pick up this summer is Tuesday, May 28th.

Pick up time is 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon each Monday through Friday.

We will not be distributing meals on July 4th.

The last day for meal pick up will be Friday, August 2.

For those of you who want/need to plan ahead, here are some important dates for the 2024-2025 school year:

Schneck Medical Center is excited to be hosting the Health Career Discovery Program for middle and high school students (5th grade and above). This is a free program for students. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to gain insight into healthcare careers.

Schneck is hosting two programs this year. Participants should only register for one program.

Program Dates:

June 17th and June 20th from 10am - 2pm

July 16th and July 18th from 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Prosser Career Education Center in New Albany hosts summer camps for middle schoolers.

Early Childhood: Safe Sitter camp is June 3-4 or June 5-6.

W.I.N.C. (Women in Non-Traditional Careers) camp is June 4-7.

Ivy Tech is offering a new one-day program for middle school students (IvyInstitute2024) this summer to explore the different types of career options available to them. Class topics include:

• Coding through Lego Robotics
• Careers in the Health Science field in our brand new labs
• Environmental focus through hands-on outdoor experiences
• Learning about entrepreneurship and other business related fields
• Safe Sitter class for students to learn the skills to care for younger children

The dates for the fall and spring driver's ed classes are as follows:

The IN Sheriffs' Association announced and will be celebrating their 44th annual IN Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Camp will be held in June and July again this year.

The first session will be held June 17-20, 2024, at Pine Creek Camp in Pine Village, Indiana (Warren County) serving the northern part of the state. The second session will be help July 1-3, 2024, serving the southern part of the state at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Morgantown, Indiana (Brown County).

The IN Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Camp is a program provided by the IN Sheriffs' Association for boys and girls who are currently in 7th or 8th grade and are interested in learning more about a possible career in law enforcement. The camp provides a very meaningful experience and relationship with other campers from throughout the state and sheriff officers who serve as counselors and instructors.

Any boy or girl currently in 7th or 8th grade interested in attending the camp should contact the Sheriff's Office or an SMS counselor for additional information. Applications are available in the SMS office. The sheriff announced that arrangements can possibly be made to provide the camp registration fee through a local business or civic organization for anyone interested.
