Himlie Hello
February 4, 2025
Well, the 200 days of January are behind us, and the shorter month of February is here. As I typed the calendar below, I was reminded that spring is coming and our school calendar is PACKED with events.
I have lots of information below, and I encourage you to join us for any events that you can. I am so proud of the way that our students and families come together to celebrate and support each other.
I thank you for being an important member of this amazing Dunn community.
You Belong,
Abby

Spotlight on A. Phillip Randolph
In 1925, A. Philip Randolph established The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP), the first nationally recognized Black labor union in the United States.
Under Randolph's leadership, the BSCP expanded its mission to advocate for broader social and economic justice, paving the way for the modern Civil Rights Movement. Randolph went on to organize the famous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963.

LOST and FOUND - Items to be Donated soon
Beginning in February we are making changes to our lost & found.
Important: Items not claimed after three months will be donated to a local charity.
- Items will be marked with a colored dot sticker the month they are received in lost & found. There will be an intake bin separate from the wire-frame racks items are currently displayed on so that items can be adequately sorted and tracked.
- An item received in August, with an August color dot, will be displayed at the September, October, and November IC assemblies and donated after the November assembly. An item received in November, with a November color dot, will be displayed at the December, January, and February IC assemblies and donated after the February assembly.
- All lost & found items are always available to be searched by families - check in at office first.
This change will help keep the lost & found area tidy and individual lost & found items in a more visible and easier to search through state which will hopefully improve daily recovery rates.
Current items are displayed on folding tables arranged along the walls in our entry hallway. These tables will remain up for this entire week. After Friday, February 7, all items will be donated, and the tagging and donation procedure outlined above will take effect.
Health Room Needs
Hi families!
The health room needs to resupply our stock of clothing. If you have any gently used shirts, sweatpants, leggings, or socks that your children have outgrown, please consider donating them to Dunn. (We prefer not to have jeans, khakis, etc. because the fit is very specific. We need it to fit many shapes and sizes.) Here's what we need:
Boys:
- Sweatpants: Small, Medium and Large
- Shirts: Small and Large
- Socks : Small, Medium and Large
Girls:
- Leggings: Small, Medium and Large
- Shirts : Small, Medium and Large
- Socks: : Small, Medium and Large
We appreciate your support in caring for our students!

Hello parents and guardians,
There has been an increase in lice cases in our community. While lice do not pose a health risk, they can be very annoying. Please take some time over the next few days to screen your family's hair. Guidelines for treating lice are available if you would like more information.
Please contact the school health office with any questions or speak to your healthcare provider.
Thank you,
Barb Gomez, RN

- If you have already scanned your ID, you will go past the front office to the check-in table
- If you have not scanned your ID on a previous visit, you will do so before entering the classroom
** Come early, as there may be a line of parents scanning IDs.
** If you are leading a game or activity, register as a PSD Volunteer HERE.
**Bring your ID card (not a picture on your phone) with you whenever you are checking in at the office.
Dunn Walk or Bike to School Day is February 14!
Join our students in supporting our City's efforts to get more people on their bikes! Dunn will have a bike mechanic, music, snacks, and information on the front lawn. Our Safety Dolphins will be there to share information on our school's Anti-Idling Campaign kicking off this month.
What better way to decrease car exhaust than to bike to school??
If you live too far to bike or walk to Dunn, park your car and bring your student to the fitness stations to get their physical activity in that way. We look forward to seeing you in the morning.

Give Me 5
Your students may have shared that we have recently transitioned to a new schoolwide attention signal called "Give Me Five."
Earlier this school year, teachers from JFK Berlin visited our school. During the visit, we learned that the "Quiet Coyote" symbol is a Turkish political symbol that is extremist in nature. Unfortunately, it is linked to racism and violence against minorities throughout Europe. This is, of course, against everything we believe in at our amazing IB school! Now that we are aware of this connection, we've adopted the "Give Me Five" signal.
Open Community Conversations with Superintendent Kingsley
You are invited to a series of Open Community Conversations with Superintendent Brian Kingsley. These sessions are designed to provide updates about Poudre School District, share the current state of PSD, and create a space for your questions, feedback, and collaboration.
Each session will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the media centers of the following schools:
- Thursday, February 6: Boltz Middle School
- Thursday, February 13: Blevins Middle School
- Monday, March 3: Lincoln Middle School
- Wednesday, April 2: Timnath Middle-High School
- Tuesday, April 15: Wellington Middle-High School
- Thursday, April 24: Preston Middle School

Come learn about local resources and attend presentations on the following topics:
- Trauma-informed parenting for resilience and recovery

Dunn After School Clubs
We realize that it has been more difficult to find information on after-school club registration. There is a new policy that we can only send out the packet of information with the links to clubs in the beginning of the year. We have found a way to have this information more accessible to families while following guidelines. Please click on our website at any time to see the information to sign up for clubs!
Dunn Family Businesses
We love to support our local businesses - CHECK OUT DUNN FAMILY BUSINESSES HERE.
Do you have a local business? Please enter your business information in the LINK HERE to share your information, so we can spread the word!
