Charger Check-In
October 31, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
We've had an awesome Red Ribbon Week which was topped off by today's Halloween festivities - lots of class celebrations, our Happy Halloween Parade and Student Council's afternoon pep assembly! We had Mary Poppins, Gru and his minions, scary cheerleaders,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, blind referees, pickles, police officers, skeletons, Mario and Luigi, Spiderman, witches, Beetlejuice, Wednesday, vampires, Thing 1 & Thing 2, basketball players, Ghost Busters, grim reapers and Men in Black. On Friday, we will celebrate All Saints Day with an all-school mass at 10AM. Our 3rd graders will be hosting! 🙂🙂
Last week, our faculty and staff participated in Beacon Training Group's EBRS Refresh Training. You may recall that EBRS stands for Escape, Barricade, Resist and Survive. The training is hands-on, intense and so very important. As part of St. Catherine's school safety work, your child's teacher may have class conversations about how we respond in the event of an intruder. These conversations will be age-appropriate with the intention of preparing students for what it might look, feel and sound like if the teacher decides the class will escape or barricade.
Thank you to all of the family volunteers who made last Friday's Trunk or Treat a huge success! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Heidemann for leading the charge again this year. Additional thanks go out to Mrs. Havelka, Mr. Hanno, Mr. Caffee, Mrs. Molinski, Mrs. Amaro, Mrs. Stanek, Mr. McShane, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Lombardo, Ms. Cosentino, Mrs. Claussen-Dewes, Mrs. Loewe, Mrs. Schmitz and Mrs. Yandel. Without volunteers like you, this gargantuan evening could not happen!
A Bit More News...
- Check out the Selfie with a Priest Challenge - scroll down! The challenge will continue for the first three weekends of November!
- Once again, St. Catherine will collect extra Halloween candy from November 1-15. Candy will be donated to a long-standing organization that serves the homeless population in the Chicagoland area. Families can send the candy in with their student - or they can bring it into school on the sly if needed! 👻👾😉🍬
- Next Friday, November 8, students will not have school. Our teachers will be participating in an Archdiocesan-wide Professional Development Day.
- If you know of an SCA family who owns a small business that we can publicize here to help support them, please reach out to me via email. Scroll down to see local businesses we can support.
Boys Basketball
This Sunday, November 3, we will have our evaluations for our fourth and fifth grade teams. The head coaches for these grades will be present and help us split the teams evenly.
- The fourth grade will go from 5 PM to 6 PM.
- The fifth grade will go from 6:15 to 7:15 PM
We will also hand out uniforms and collect fees from our sixth, seventh and eighth graders. You cannot receive a uniform if you do not pay the required fees.
- 5:30 PM to 6 PM -- eighth grade
- 6 PM to 6:30 PM -- seventh grade
- 6:30 PM to 7 PM -- six grade
Three separate checks will be required.
- $175 for registration
- $150 for volunteer hours
- $100 for uniform deposit
As long as you meet the requirements for the volunteer hours and the uniform is returned in good condition, those checks do not get cashed.
If you cannot make it, please reach out to either John Donahue or Tom Wood.
