The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
As we wrap up the first grading period of the 2024-2025 school year this week, I am pleased to share that our district is buzzing with active teaching and learning. From the first day of school, our campus principals lead the charge toward academic excellence, and we are celebrating them throughout October during National Principals Month. If you get a chance, please thank a principal for their hard work. I also invite you to check out my Jackson Moments on social media as I make my way across the district this month to get to know our principals a little better.
This past week, we celebrated National Custodian Day, recognizing our spectacular custodial staff for their hard work and dedication. We are grateful to our custodians for leading the way in maintaining a safe and clean environment for our students and staff.
If you were unable to complete our socioeconomic survey when we previously shared it, we sent it to you again this past week. We encourage you to complete this confidential survey, as it helps us better serve our community. Please note that this information will not be sent to the TEA. Additionally, if you haven't done so already, please share your input in our annual calendar survey—your voice matters!
Looking ahead, I’d like to invite you to join us for the Project Graduation 5K at Sylvan Beach on October 26. This fun event supports our seniors, with 100% of the proceeds going towards a safe and enjoyable post-graduation celebration.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Huge shout-outs to our La Porte High School Tennis and Water Polo teams as they enter the UIL Bi-District playoffs this week. The tennis team takes on Baytown Sterling while the boys and girls water polo teams face Aldine MacArthur and Aldine Nimitz. Best of luck to all of you!
- Kudos to the football players and coaches at La Porte and Lomax Jr. High Schools, who split wins among their seventh and eighth grade teams this past week. We have some talented youngsters!
- Shout-out to our varsity Bulldogs Football Team! The big win on Friday night moves the Bulldogs to 2-0 in district play.
- Mega shout-outs to Shell Regional Challenge winners Yelitza Cienfuegos and Alyssa Ruffin. As a result, Shell is offering science lab makeovers at their schools!
- Congratulations to Rebecca Branch and Jorja Beall, who showed their pigs this past week at the State Fair of Texas!

Finally, Board Trustees Mason Peres and Dee Anne Thomson, along with myself and a few district administrators conducted the first Board Walk of the 2024-2025 school year this past week. Our dedicated Board members use Board Walks as a way to see the excellence happening in our schools up close and in person. Board Walks happen throughout the year and demonstrate the Board of Trustees' deep commitment to the district and the success of our students.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. I am hopeful that the upcoming holidays (this week and next) provide everyone with plenty of rest and relaxation.
In your service,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Must-Knows For This Week
- October 10-11 and 14-15 are student holidays.
- La Porte ISD is excited to introduce the easy option of paying for all school fees/spirit items with our new RevTrak online credit card payment system. Simply create an account, find your campus, choose your fee to pay and check out. The best part is that you will not be charged a fee to use the site. Access RevTrak here. (If you are adding funds to your student’s meal account, you will continue to use the My School Bucks website.)
- The 2024-25 Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct are available online. Please familiarize your student with the contents. We are strictly enforcing the district dress code; you can review it beginning on page 54 of the Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students dress appropriately.
- If your child rides the bus, we encourage you to download the SMART Tag Parent app. With the SMART Tag Parent App, families enjoy great features such as push notifications for load/unload status, proximity to home/school alerts and real-time location of your student's bus. Questions? Call our dedicated Transportation Department at 281-604-7177.
- Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all La Porte ISD students this year! Supplemental food, such as fruits and vegetables, are also free for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.)
