December is Learn a Foreign Language Month
December is Learn a Foreign Language Month, and as we are celebrating the holiday season, this is a great occasion to make time in our lives for learning a foreign language. In addition, this event raises public awareness of the plethora of benefits associated with learning new languages. For example, after three months of studying a foreign language, learners’ brains grow in four places! It is said that learning another language is not only learning different words, but learning another way to think about things. In both children and adults, learning a new language increases empathy and improves cross-cultural understanding and communication for friendships or travel. In addition, learning a foreign language enhances cognitive functions, such as concentration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
IN DECEMBER WE CELEBRATE....
National Twin Day
National Twin Day is celebrated on December 18th each year. The history of National Twin Day is connected to the Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, which is held annually during the first full weekend in August. The history of National Twin Day is inspired by identical twins Moses and Aaron Wilcox, who donated land to the town of Millsville, Ohio in 1819. They insisted the town change its name to Twinsburg, and the town later hosted the first Twins Days Festival in 1976.
National Monkey Day
Every year on December 14th National Monkey Day celebrates the unique characteristics of simians. The day also focuses on other non-human primates such as apes, tarsiers, and lemurs. Monkeys, also known as simians, live all over the world. More than 260 species of monkeys populate Africa, Central America, South America, and Asia. They range in size from mere ounces like the pygmy marmoset to the mandrill at a heavier 80 pounds. Monkeys tend to walk on all four limbs. As a member of the primate family, they are considered a lesser ape. Most monkeys have a tail, though not all do. Monkeys are divided into two categories – Old World monkeys and New World monkeys.
Christmas Day
Christmas Day in 2024 will be on Wednesday, December 25. The history of Christmas can be traced back to the early Christian Church's decision to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The exact date of Jesus' birth is unknown, but the church chose December 25th. This date was chosen because it was nine months after March 25th, the Roman date of the spring equinox, which was believed to be the date of the creation of the world. Christmas traditions have evolved over the centuries, incorporating elements from various cultures and regions. Some traditions are gift-giving, Christmas trees, festive foods like roast turkey, mince pies, and Christmas pudding, and Christmas cards
