Week 6, Term 1, 2020
TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
Generosity is giving and sharing. It is giving freely.
It is seeing a chance to give what you have and then giving just for the joy of giving.
The Third Week of Lent
Dear God,
During this season of Lent, may you help us
to thank you for the new life you gave to our world,
to find your presence around us, in the sparkle of the sunshine,
a word given in encouragement, a smile shred in passing,
to open our hearts to your call,
to serve one another with your loving compassion,
to have the courage to ask for help as we journey to
and to know when we have gone off the path,
and to remember what Lent is all about and to turn our lives toward you.
Amen.
From the Principal
SACRAMENTAL ENROLMENT MASSES
Thank you to all those who attended the enrolment masses last weekend. If you were unable to be there, another opportunity exists for you this weekend at the 6.30 pm Mass on Saturday 14 March. At the conclusion of this Mass, Mrs Heldt (Parish Co-ordinator) will be at the back of the church. If you speak with her she will provide you with the relevant information and paperwork.
Coronavirus - COVID-19
With public and media commentary about COVID-19 continuing to ramp up, it is understandable that staff, parents and students may feel stressed and anxious about the situation. The WA Health Department has updated information which addresses frequently asked questions, please visit their site for the latest information.
Good hygiene is the best defence so please continue to encourage students to wash their hands with soap, especially before eating, and to keep hands away from the face as much as possible. Also, I encourage all students to bring water bottles with them each day and to use the drink fountains to refill bottles as necessary.
Advice for Parents/Carers/Staff
Whilst it is very much business as usual at Orana, we remain mindful that preparedness is the key to maintaining effective operations. With this in mind, it would be helpful for families in Years 3 to 6 to ensure iPads are up to date.
Parents/Carers and staff who are considering personal international travel during the April holidays are asked to refer to the Department of Health and Smart Traveller websites to ensure they are aware of current travel restrictions and advice prior to embarking on their travels. These sites should also be checked regularly prior to their return to Australia as the information changes regularly. The Australian Government continues to monitor international public health information and may amend travel restrictions, health screening and self-quarantine requirements. Parents/Carers and staff who undertake personal international travel are asked to consider their preparedness to self-quarantine for 14 days following their arrival in Australia should this be required.
Advice regarding countries identified as “Higher Risk” or “Moderate Risk”
Students or staff who have travelled to or transited through China, Iran or South Korea MUST isolate for 14 days before attending school. Students or staff who have travelled to or transited through other countries (excluding China, Iran, Republic of Korea) can attend school. If students or staff display symptoms they should not attend school and seek medical advice. All returned passengers who have travelled in or transited through “higher risk” countries or a country considered to pose a “moderate risk” of transmission in the last 14 days should self-monitor for symptoms and immediately isolate themselves if they become unwell.

2020 Orana Swimming Carnival
On 9 March at Riverton Leisureplex, Students in Years 4 to 6 attended the Orana Swimming Carnival. The students represented their faction over various swimming strokes, distances, relays and novelty games. The students were wonderful sports people cheering their faction and competitors on. IT'S NEARLY FOOTY SEASON!
Hi Tippers
** TIPPING ALERT NOTICE 1 ***
There are only 14 days before the 2020 AFL season begins. As usual we will be running our Orana Footy Tipping Competition.
Traditionally, we have had really great cash prizes at the end of the season as well as weekly winners. This is dependent on how many tippers we have. Please encourage your family and mates to join as well.
As existing ESPN tippers, please follow these steps:
- Update your details
- Join Orana2020
Payment details will follow in the next few weeks. This message is simply to round up our "GANG" of 80 tippers and hopefully more this year. Cost will be $40 as usual.
DOCKERS RAFFLE 2020
Would you like to be our guests at Freo's games this season?
Orana's membership consists of seats for two adults and two children. The seats are FANTASTIC - in Block 130, Row 5, Seats 1-4. They are behind the goals with the sun setting behind. You don't have to be a Freo fan to enjoy an outing to Optus Stadium.
We have been running our Dockers Raffle for 17 years. During that time many of our families have been our guests at the Footy. We would love you to buy a ticket or two in our Raffle. Tickets are $25 each and go towards the payment of our School's Membership. It is such good value for money and represents 1/5 of the value if you were to purchase tickets on the day.
Many thanks,
Lyn & Monica

The Week that Was!
P & F
A word from your Class Rep Coordinator- Bronwyn Mattock....
It gives me great pleasure to take on the role of Class Rep Coordinator in 2020. This is my second year in the role on the Executive Committee. I originally joined the P&F as a Class rep in 2018. I have found that playing a role in the P&F has allowed me to gain a greater insight in to my children's school life and more importantly be a part of the memories that they are making at Orana. Lending a hand to the the P&F has also helped me to feel fully immersed in the school community, meeting parents of children in year levels other than my own.
I have two children at the school. One in Year 3 and another in Pre-Primary. I work part time and am in and around the school on a Thursday and Friday. I welcome you to come and have a chat, share your ideas and get on board with the P&F. After all, many hands make light work.
Look out soon for information regarding raffle tickets for priority front row seating for the Make-a-Move concerts occurring on the 7th and 8th of April.
Also, if you are able to volunteer some time to assist with the Mother's Day Stall early next term please get in touch via Facebook or email us at: oranapandf@gmail.com.
Our next P&F meeting is scheduled for Monday the 30th of March @ 7:00pm. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
From our Parish of Sts John & Paul
Request for members and volunteers Growing Vine offers a day of companionship for senior citizens from within and outside our parish community on Fridays (school terms) at the John Paul Centre. We invite new people in our parish and community, regardless of religious and cultural backgrounds, to come and share your time, talent and treasure. We are also in need of additional volunteers to make/serve morning tea/lunch and additional bus drivers to pick and drop off our elderly. A sufficient number of members and volunteers are vital to the existence and running of this great program into the future. Social outings are organised during the year for the members and volunteers. Being a member/volunteer with the Growing Vine offers a wonderful opportunity for making new friends as well as assisting others in the community.
