Week 10 @ Puketapu School
We have just wrapped up an incredibly eventful and memorable week here at Puketapu School. With a wide range of activities and celebrations, it was a time filled with pride, gratitude, and a strong sense of community spirit. Let's take a moment to reflect on the highlights of this big week!
Assembly: Our school assembly was the heart and soul of the week, where students, staff, parents and community gathered to celebrate our achievements and bid farewell to some of our valuable staff members. It was a bittersweet occasion as we farewelled these incredible individuals who have made a significant impact on our school community.
Celebrating Student Achievements: At the assembly, we also took the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students. It was a joyous occasion as we awarded "Student of the Day" prizes.
Winning Whānau Announcement: In addition to the Student of the Day prizes, we proudly announced the winning whānau for this term. It was a tight competition. Congratulations to all members of the winning whānau... Kākāpō!
Kapa Haka Performances and Farewell: Our students showcased their talent and cultural pride through captivating kapa haka performances during the assembly followed by a heartfelt Haka to farewell departing staff members. The presence of ex-pupils and community members truly showcased the strong bond within our school community.
Appointment of Kaitiaki Tama & Kaitiaki Kōtiro: We are thrilled to announce the appointment of our Kaitiaki Tama and Kaitiaki Kōtiro for the second half of the year.
Taylor Harvey and Erin Sowman will join current Kaitiaki Kingston Benton and Ella Rauputu for the remainder of 2023. All four students have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a commitment to serving our school community.
Manu Tukutuku Day: Following assembly, we invited families and community members back to school to celebrate Manu Tukutuku Day. Everyone enjoyed delicious sausages and had the opportunity to admire the beautiful kites created by our talented tamariki over the past few weeks.
It was a truly remarkable week at Puketapu School, highlighting the incredible achievements of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the strong sense of community that sets us apart. We extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of these events.
farewell
It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to three remarkable individuals who have played an integral role in our school community. Corinne Sattler, Rachel MacAvoy and Tara Curtis, our treasures, will be leaving Puketapu School and their absence will be deeply felt by students, staff, and parents alike.
Corinne, as we reflect on the remarkable 27-year journey at Puketapu School, we recognize the countless lives she has touched and the positive impact she has made throughout her tenure. She has tirelessly worked to uplift our school, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, staff, and parents. Her passion for education and her unwavering belief in the potential of every child have been the driving forces behind her remarkable contributions. Corinne has worn many hats; her leadership, guidance, and mentorship have shaped the minds and hearts of generations of students, providing them with the tools they need to succeed. Her unwavering commitment, tireless efforts, and unwavering dedication to the growth and success of our school will forever be etched in our hearts.
Rachel, as a dedicated teacher, has left an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of her students. Her passion for education and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds has been truly inspiring. Rachel's infectious enthusiasm and creative teaching methods have helped her students foster a love for learning within them.
Tara, our caring and compassionate support staff member, has been a pillar of support for both students and teachers. Her genuine kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand have touched the lives of many. Tara's unwavering dedication to the well-being and happiness of our school community has created a nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported.
To Rachel, Tara, and Corinne, thank you for being the treasures that you are. We will cherish the memories we have created together, and your legacies will live on within the walls of Puketapu School.
Kia hora te marino, Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana, kia tere te Kārohirohi i mua i tōu huarahi.
May the calm be widespread, May the ocean glisten as greenstone, May the shimmer of light ever dance across your pathway.
The past week of celebrations for Corinne / Miss Sattler.

Mid Year Reports
We hope you are enjoying the changes to the way the reports look following feedback gathered in our parent survey earlier in the year.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or make sure to discuss them at your child's Learning Conference next term.
Learning Conferences
We are halfway through the school year, so it is time to get students, teachers and whānau together to reflect on learning so far and think about goals for the rest of the year.
How does this work?
Every student, from every class, along with their parent(s)/caregiver(s), comes to meet with their child's teacher. Each meeting is for 15 minutes and the aim is to review how learning is going, reflect on progress, talk about hopes and goals for the rest of the year
This year our Learning Conferences will be held over two sessions:
Tuesday 25th July 2023
12.30pm - 8.00pm
Tuesday 1st August 2023
3.30pm -6.30pm
Bookings are made via Hero's new booking feature:

Health Education @ Puketapu
Our school is committed to delivering health and physical education programmes that apply best practice, comply with relevant guidelines and legislation, and are appropriate for our school community. We support the positive and holistic development and health of our students.
In Term 3, we will be consulting with our school community about how we should implement the health curriculum. This is a requirement that we must undertake every two years under the Education and Training Act 2020.
After we have consulted our community we will then:
- determine the health education needs of our students
- inform the school community about the content of the health curriculum
- prepare a draft statement
- give members of the school community an adequate opportunity to comment on the draft statement
- consider any comments received.
Until this consultation is completed we will put our Relationships & Sexuality Education, part of the Health Education, on hold.
Next term, our Health Education focus will be on Food & Nutrition which will be delivered by Life Education in Weeks 4 - 6 as well as integrated through our term's Kaupapa (Learning Theme).
