Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
I hope your families enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. We were thrilled to welcome your children back to school after the break. I love this time of year in an elementary school. In addition to continued participation in meaningful learning experiences, our students are excited for all the fun of winter and holidays.
We will have many festive activities at Lions Park. The details about our winter concerts for all second, third, and fourth grade students and for third-fifth grade chorus students can be found below. All fifth graders will perform in the fifth grade musical this spring. Doors will open 15 minutes before each show and students are asked to go straight to their homerooms while families get a seat in the gym. If you arrive before 5:45, doors will not be open. Our staff will be eating dinner and making last-minute preparations.
We will also be doing the Mount Prospect Fire Department Toy Drive on Friday, December 9th. We ask any family who wishes to do so to send their child to school with a gift next Friday from the list below. A fire truck and several firefighters will come to Lions Park to collect the gifts from our students. All students will go out to see the trucks, even if they don't bring a gift.
Please help us to keep your children safe by driving with caution around the school. It is important to drive slowly and look carefully because children sometimes move in unpredictable ways. If you are using a Kiss and Go area, please drop your child off curbside. Parents who have finished drop off often drive around stopped cars, so there is a real risk to any students exiting away from the curb. I have been outside to provide reminders and have seen multiple students exiting the streetside each day. We appreciate your partnership in keeping everyone safe.
Repeated from 11/18 newsletter: As you may know, Erin’s Law mandates sexual abuse prevention education for public school children in Illinois and many other states across the country. More information about Erin’s Law can be found by clicking here. Between December 5th and December 22nd, Lions Park students will participate in a 30-minute classroom presentation delivered by Gail Valentini, School Social Worker, to educate them in an age-appropriate way about the topic of childhood sexual abuse. These valuable presentations will teach students more about personal safety, safe vs. unsafe touches, safety steps to follow if someone breaks the touching rule and good secrets vs. bad secrets. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Valentini (gvalentini@d57.org) if you have any follow up questions.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly
