In Reading Language Arts, students have finished our second unit and are currently beginning the third unit. This unit will focus on academic argument and the classic novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. This unit is designed to enhance students' critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and proficiency in forming logical arguments. Students will end the module by writing their own academic argument essay.
In math, students wrapped up their proportional relationships unit by creating a one-pager that focused on using equations, tables, and graphs to solve real-world problems. Next, we’ll dive into percents, where students will learn to calculate percentages, solve percent problems (like discounts, tax, and tips), and explore how percents connect to fractions and decimals. This new topic builds on their previous understanding of ratios and proportions.
Students are about to embark on an exciting journey to uncover the wonders of Latin America. Whether you're dreaming of lush rainforests, vibrant cultures, or ancient civilizations, this next unit will take you on an enriching exploration of this diverse continent. We are beginning in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, before traveling to spanish-speaking South America. Students will look at how geography and history work together to form how people live today. Some highlights include Aztecs and Incas, Carnival, and the Amazon Rainforest.
Our seventh-grade students have been diving into an exciting and essential topic in life science: the human body systems! Through hands-on activities, discussions, and interactive lessons, they are gaining a deeper understanding of how the body functions as a complex and interconnected system built upon trillions of cells!
🔹 Skeletal System – Students are learning about bones' structure, function, and role in protecting organs and supporting movement., as well bone marrow producing blood.
🔹 Muscular System – We’re exploring the three types of muscles (skeletal, smooth, and cardiac) and how they work with the skeletal system to enable movement.
🔹 Digestive System – From the mouth to the intestines, students are tracing the path of food and learning how nutrients are absorbed into the body.
🔹 Excretory System – We’re discussing how the body removes waste through organs like the kidneys, bladder, and skin to maintain balance.
🔹 Circulatory System – Students are examining how the heart, blood, and blood vessels transport oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
🔹 Respiratory System – We’re investigating how the lungs and diaphragm work together to bring in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.
🔹 Nervous System – Students are discovering how the brain, spinal cord, and nerves send and receive signals to control body functions and respond to stimuli.
Our students are doing a fantastic job exploring the incredible inner workings of the human body and look forward to their project at the end of the module showing how the different systems work together! If you have time, ask your student what makes them who they are. The students had an incredibly fun time probing the philosophical question of, “Who am I”.
