Henry Happenings
March 11th, 2024
Principal Message
Our One School, One Book project and Read-A-Thon is going well! We are almost half way through Read-A-Thon and half way through reading The World According to Humphrey. We have raised $6,341.25 to put toward school furniture. Our goal is $10,000! So far, our school has logged 86,571 minutes, which is truly outstanding! Make sure your students are also logging their reader in me minutes as well! Scroll down for more information!
Your input on how your child learns is important to our decisions on class placement in 2024-2025 for each child. Please take a moment to fill out the survey for each child that you have attending Henry. Thank you so much for your input. Henry Parent Input Form 2024-2025.
Also, as we plan ahead for next year, if you have a child that will be entering Kindergarten in 2024-2025 please register as soon as possible. It is imperative that we know how many students will be in our entering Kindergarten class so we can prepare with the correct number of staff. If you have questions about Kindergarten registration please click here for more information.

Hats On Day, Friday March 15th in Support of Friends of Kids with Cancer
Hats On Day was founded in 1995 by four sixth-graders at Henry School. They began the fundraiser when their friend and classmate, Kevin Beffa, was diagnosed with a type of childhood cancer called Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Kevin was a bright, happy child with a passion for soccer. When he got sick, he had to miss school and lost all his hair from treatment.
Kevin would often wear a hat to conceal his hair loss. But, as the only one at school to wear a hat, he often felt out of place. In need of a bone marrow transplant, Hats On Day was planned to support Kevin during his battle and serve as a day when everyone would come together to wear a hat. However, just days before the event, Kevin passed away.
Dedicated to their friend, the event was still hosted in Kevin’s memory and the proceeds were donated to Friends of Kids with Cancer. It was their hope that this fundraiser would spread to other schools and create awareness about childhood cancer and the impact it has on the families affected.
From 1995 until now, this amazing fundraiser has grown to include the majority of the St. Louis Metro area schools, businesses, and places of worship. When you participate in Hats On Day, you not only raise awareness, but you rally behind thousands of children battling childhood cancer!
One School, One Book and Read-a-Thon Continue
As a reminder, our One School, One Book and Read-A-Thon continue this week. Doing them simultaneously will allow for the book we are all reading as a school to count toward minutes of the Read-a-Thon. We are raising money through the Read-A-Thon for updated school furniture. Last year we were able to raise $10,000 and purchase new tables for ALL 5th grade classrooms. Below is also a reminder of the reading schedule. Keep up the great work everyone!
Library News and Notes, Book Donations Sought
The Henry library is looking for some book donations of highly circulated books. The following series are very popular with our students and we are constantly replacing our library copies. If you have any hardcover copies of these books/series and would like to donate them to the library, please send them with your child and have them give them to Mrs. Goyal.
• Harry Potter
• Dog Man
• Series of Unfortunate Events
• Where's Waldo
• Dork Diaries
• Weird but True
Thank you in advance for your donation, and please let me know if you have any questions!
Also, the Book Fair is coming up! The Book Fair will be in the library the week of April 8th. We need help with set up, student previews, and shopping days. Please click here to sign up.
Questions? Contact Mrs. Goyal at agoyal@parkwayschools.net.
5th Grade Strings Visitor April 22nd
Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Branch are excited to welcome Irish Fiddle player, Eimear Arkins, to work with our 5th grade strings students on Monday 4/22/24. She will be performing for the kids and helping the students with Irish music they will be performing at their Spring Orchestra Concert. All 5th grade string students need to bring their instruments for this special workshop. If you wish to opt your student out of attending the event, please contact Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. Branch.
Notes from Nurse Munch
Spring allergy season seems to be starting a little early this year. If you would like your child to have allergy medication on hand in the nurse's office, it needs to be brought into school in the original container with a signed Medication Authorization Form, which can be found here.
