π Message from Mrs. Uhl π
Importance of Consistent Attendance:
Regular school attendance is a critical factor in your child's academic and social success. Each day of learning builds upon the previous one, and consistent attendance ensures your child doesnβt miss important instruction, hands-on activities, and opportunities to connect with their peers.
Hereβs why attendance matters:
- Academic Progress: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading, math, and other subjects. Missing even a few days can disrupt learning routines and create gaps that are harder to close.
- Social Growth: School is not just about academicsβit's where children build friendships, learn teamwork, and develop essential life skills.
- Building Responsibility: Establishing good attendance habits early teaches responsibility and sets the foundation for future success in school and beyond.
We understand that illnesses and unforeseen circumstances happen. If your child must miss school, please communicate with us promptly so we can support their learning while they are away.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child thrives in school. Together, we can create a strong path for their future success.
Winter Weather is Coming!
Are you ready to receive messages from school?
Cancellations, late starts, and early dismissals due to weather will be broadcast on the Sioux City TV stations, posted on Facebook and the webpage, and text messaged and phone call messaged through School Messenger.
If you have not signed up for the text alerts, you can participate in this free service just by sending a text message of βYβ or βYesβ to our schoolβs short code number, 67587.
You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with βStopβ.
Recess:
βοΈ The weather is quickly changing! βοΈ
As the weather chills and soon the snow begins to fly, your child will need snowpants, boots, winter coat, gloves, and a hat to play in the snow. Children will be going outside for recess if the real feel temperature is above 0Β°.

π Spread Appreciation for Our Amazing School Staff! π
Elementary Families,
We know how awesome our school staff is, and weβd love your help in letting them know just how much theyβre appreciated! From teachers and counselors to office and support staff, everyone works so hard to make Homer Elementary a great place for our kids. Nowβs your chance to share a little love with them!
Iβve set up a quick Google Form where you can give a shout-out to any staff member whoβs made a positive impact on your child or family. Whether itβs a teacher whoβs gone the extra mile or a staff member who always shows kindness, weβd love to hear about it. This Google Form will be open for the remainder of the school year.
Hereβs the best part: Iβll be printing out your messages and personally delivering them to the specific staff member you mention. So your kind words will go directly to them, letting them know how much theyβre appreciated!
Thank you for helping us recognize the incredible work happening in our school every day. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

π Elementary Enrichment π
The Elementary Enrichment group was able to test out their stem skills today with Kellen Conroy from the ESU. They were challenged to create the tallest structure they could, but also sturdy enough to withstand an earthquake. Each group was given a certain number of toothpicks and marshmallows to construct their building with. When time was up, they had to place their structure into a tray filled with marbles to resemble what the earth would feel like during an earthquake. Amazingly, each object passed their 10 second shake test!
Mrs. Schmidt worked with the group to make borax Christmas ornaments!
