Electronic Backpack & Newsletter
10/25/24
Hello DeMello Families!
Happy Friday! We hope this newsletter finds you all enjoying another week of lovely fall weather and looking forward to the weekend😊
This week, I traveled back down to Littleland (grades K-2) to spent some time in our classrooms during reading blocks. I was able to observe Mrs. Pickering's 2nd graders dive into a new literacy unit (and a new literacy program!). The students were engaging in a lesson on a fairy tale that immersed them in vocabulary, story elements and critical thinking. It brought so much joy to see them all so excited to jump into their learning! I look forward to observing them as they move through this new unit!
Another highlight of the week was a visit from meteorologist Danielle Noyes from 1 Degree Outside, a platform dedicated to New England weather. Ms. Noyes visited our kindergarten classrooms to talk about all things weather! Thanks to K teacher, Mrs. Condon, for coordinating this enrichment event for our youngest learners. A big shout out goes to our kindergarteners, who brought their enthusiasm and curiosity to the presentation!
Next week marks the beginning of our Pumpkin Book Character contest--please see the flyer and information posted below and send your students' creations in! We can't wait to see what our students do this year!
AND...the big upcoming event is, of course, our annual Halloween parade. Details about this event are provided below. We hope you will join us on Thursday!
On behalf of the DeMello staff, I wish you a wonderful weekend with your amazing children.
We will see them back on Monday morning!
All the Best-
Mrs. Correia

Socktober Donations Needed
Earlier this month we sent home a flyer from our 4th Grade Student Council asking for new sock donations to benefit community members in need. We have received many donations to date--thanks to those who have sent them in! If you would still like to make a donation, please be sure to send socks in no later that Thursday, 10/31 (the last day of Soctober).
STILL Looking for VOLUNTEERS
DeMello School needs your help! We are looking for volunteers to assist us at recess anytime between 11:00 and 12:35. Volunteers would be responsible to helping to run games (soccer, football, kickball). Any time that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me at if you are interested in helping 🙂
Donations (STILL) Needed!
Thanks to a grant written by our Instructional Technology Coach, Mrs. Voci, we will be transforming part of the DeMello Library into a makerspace! An alternative to traditional recess, selected students will be able to spend their lunch recess designing and creating with Mrs. Voci. In order to provide students with a range of materials we are asking families to donate some used items their children may no longer play with, such as MagnaTiles, building blocks, Legos, Kinex and craft supplies. No worry about cleaning anything--we will gladly do that😊 Thank you in advance for your donations!
