Dear Parents, Carers, Children and Staff,
We started the week by recognising we were entering a new season in the Church calendar. Our school Nativity scene had stood proudly in the foyer of the school until February 2nd, which marked the Presentation of Jesus at the temple and the end of the Christmas period.
Now we have entered what is called Ordinary Time. The cloths around the church and school will change to the colour green to mark the change in season.
On Wednesday, the Year 1 and 2 class led the school in a fantastic collective worship. The focus being to “Follow Jesus.”
We shared the Gospel of Luke 5: 2 -11 where Jesus invites the disciples to put down their fishing nets and follow him to become fisher of men. The children acted out the gospel for everyone to see. The class led us in prayer and song. We sang together "My Lighthouse", with illuminating actions. The children explained that a lighthouse keeps ships safe and guides them to shore and in the same way, Jesus keeps us safe and guides us on the right path.
Our final hymn was “Follow Me.” The lyrics of the hymn reinforced the message of the Gospel; to follow Jesus in both words and actions. Thank you to the children and staff of Year 1 and 2 for a fantastic prayer service.
Next Friday, there will be no school assembly. In its place, there will be a school disco provided by the Friends' of St Peter’s and St Gildas’. Classes have been practising whole class dance routines, which I am very excited to see. Children will be able to come to school on the day in casual clothes. The disco will finish at 3:10pm. In addition, the Chaplaincy Team are planning a charity fund raising cake sale at the end of the day. Please help with donations of cakes and bring lots of change to make your purchases.
Finally, thank you to all the parents that were able to attend the informal meeting with the Local Authority and Diocesan representatives around the current position of the school and the proposed plans for the future. Whilst the content of the meeting does not put the school in a positive position, it is important that all parents and carers are aware of the wide range of factors that have led us to this point. It is equally important to understand the timeline of the events that will take place going forward. If any parents or carers that were unable to attend the meeting would like to speak to me directly, please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting via the school office.
