Ryan's Weekly Family Update
4.7.25
Message from the Principal
Dear Ryan Elementary Community,
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students begin CMAS testing this week. Please reinforce the importance for your kids to try their best and acknowledge their hard work. We look forward to celebrating our students that participate with a Ryan CMAS A.G.E. medal for attendance (A), grit (G) and effort (E). Students will also receive special items related to our theme: DONUT Stress, just do your BEST!
Do you want to have a peek into what your kids will be doing for CMAS? I think it is interesting to see the format and levels of complexity by engaging with the CMAS released practice items at this link. Click on the green bar for your preferred content, click on a grade level and then choose an “online item set”.
On Friday, a letter was shared with updates for the 2025-26 school year. Click here if you missed it. In this letter, I shared that we were allocated 15 classroom teachers. This decreases our specials allocation (music, art, pe) to be less than full time. This means that for the 25-26 school year, we need to plan for two part-time music teachers rather than one full-time teacher. The change in allocation currently only impacts our music teacher because the position is a probationary contract.
I anticipate being able to post and hire a part time music teacher and full time Dean of Students for the 25-26 school year. Mr. Chavez, our Assistant Principal, planned to take a medical leave in mid May. I’ll share more updates on how we will honor Mr. Chavez’s years of dedication to our Ryan Community in the near future.
My goal is to keep the adults in our community updated while providing a calm, safe and consistent learning environment for our students. Typically, May is when we tend to share specifics about staff changes for the 25-26 school year with students. Right now, there are too many moving pieces that will create unnecessary worries for our children. I’ll continue to share more information and specifics as our school works through these changes.
Some fun events to look forward to include our spring Noetic Math Challenge for 2nd-5th grade, Bike to School Day, end of year IXL and iReady testing windows with AGE awards, 5th grade musical, field trips for certain grades, field day on May 16th and so much more.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly rather than reaching out to our staff or teachers. I promise to answer your questions or follow up at a later time if you have a question I can’t answer right now. My email is stephanie.jackman@bvsd.org and my direct line is 720-561-5485.
If you have ideas on how to promote and reinforce our STEAM focus, please share them with us via this form: 25-26 STEAM Focus
It’s a great day to be a Rhino. We are RESILIENT RHINOS!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Jackman

BVSD Bike and Roll to School Day
Wednesday, April 23
BVSD Bike and Roll to School Day
In BVSD, we celebrate Bike to School Day a little earlier than the rest of the country. While the national day is celebrated in May, BVSD aligns our celebration with Earth Day in late April. By having an event in April, we hope to encourage more biking and rolling to school for the remainder of the school year. Join us in riding, rolling or walking to school on Bike to School Day.
Coffee + Connection Wednesday, April 23rd
Join us on Wednesday, April 23rd from 7:55-8:30am, for our next Coffee + Connections.
Take a moment to hang out after walking/biking your child to "Bike and Roll to School Day" and morning drop-off to enjoy some coffee and informal time to connect with Mrs. Jackman.
Book Donation!
Ryan Elementary has been gifted sets of multicultural books for each classroom teacher! Through a partnership with FET (Families and Educators Together) and Ascent Community Church, over 450 books were donated to our classrooms. The books are by diverse authors and illustrators, and many of them are award-winning titles in both English and Spanish. We are very grateful for this partnership and gift!
Book Fair Update!
Thank you for shopping, volunteering and donating at the Spring 2025 Book Fair! It was a success because of YOU!

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or bring treats and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the upcoming book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well!
Please take a moment to explore this link: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers you may need the Raptor check or CBI Background fingerprint check. Raptor is valid for one calendar year and CBI Background checks are now valid for 5 years!
Volunteers and field trip chaperones should be under line-of-sight supervision by BVSD staff at all times. Line-of-sight can be through a transparent wall or door. For volunteers, partners, or field trip chaperones who will not be under line-of-sight supervision by BVSD staff at all times – CBI fingerprint check required through a third party vendor, paid by the volunteer/partner/school AND volunteer must sign a BVSD volunteer agreement (Spanish).
Please see the Volunteer/Visitor FAQ and the Volunteers/Visitors Flowchart for additional details.

We appreciate your help! Thanks!
Attendance Announcement
Daily Attendance
Please help your child develop good attendance habits. Research shows that missing just two days per month severely impacts reading and math growth. To make expected academic and social emotional gains, students should be at school at a rate of 95% or more. Habits developed in elementary school often carry over into middle school and high school.
If your child will be absent:
Please let us know online via Infinite Campus OR call Ryan’s attendance line at 720-561-7002 by 8:05 a.m. If your student is arriving late, please note that in the comments section online. Always notify the office of an absence or late arrival, not just the classroom teacher.
Attendance - Ryan Elementary School. Please include the following information in your voice message: your name, student’s name, grade & teacher, and the reason for the absence.
As a safety precaution, all primary contacts of students marked as unaccounted absences will receive notification by BVSD’s automated attendance system to verify a child’s absence. Promptly calling in absences and tardies will prevent your home or workplace from being disturbed.
If at all possible, make every attempt to schedule doctor and dentist appointments before or after the school day, as this tends to take away from a student’s learning time. If your child does have a medical appointment, providing us with documentation helps us code these absences properly.
Automated calls are made by 9:00 a.m. for students who are marked as “unexcused absence”.
Procedures and information about student absences are explain in the March 2024 Revised Board Policy, JH and Attendance & Engagement - Boulder Valley School District
We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time. We ask, if you know your child will be out for more than 3 days, to please fill out this form in addition to reporting the absence through the portal or attendance line.
BVSD's School Messenger support and notifications
Boulder Valley School District recently tested their emergency alert system.
The test alert included a phone call, text message and email to those opted in to receive BVSD Communications.
Users can adjust their communication preferences as desired via these instructions.
If you did not receive a text message, and would like to opt-in to receive text messages from the district and schools through SchoolMessenger, opting-in is a two-step process:
- The person's cell phone number must be in a cell phone field in Infinite Campus (students/parents) or Infor/Lawson (employees).
- They then send a text message from their cell phone to “67587” with the word “yes” in the message. They may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
