LAMBERT
September 2024 Edition

Dear Longhorn Families,
Between Labor Day and Fall Break, September is a relatively short month in terms of school days, but we still have a lot going on at LHS. Be sure to read through the entire September edition to stay in the know about all the great things happening at Lambert.
Also, please note that Thursday will be our first Lambert Connected Homecoming Parade; we are excited to welcome 8th graders and 5th graders from our feeder schools to our campus for this great event. Please be aware that access to our building will be closed off for the parade from approximately 9:30 - 11:30. If your student has a planned checkout for Thursday, please be sure to pick them up them prior to the start of the parade. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility so we can host this great event for our students!
Hook 'em!!
Sincerely,
Amanda Thrower
Principal

STUDENT SUPPORT TIME
In order to help students maximize their time during Lunch and Learn, we are using a web-based app in Classlink called Student Support Time.
Student Support Time allows students to sign up for a teacher’s help session, time to work in the media center, or make up an assessment in the testing room. Student Support Time also allows for teachers to request students to their help session during Lunch and Learn to make up missing work or get extra help before an assessment. Our use of Student Support Time is a replacement for the paper pass system and “Corral” in the Media Center that has been used in previous years.
If teachers request a student to attend a help session in their classroom during Lunch and Learn, we expect the students to attend and disciplinary action will be taken if students do not. Each day at the end of 4th and 5th period, an announcement is made for students to check their Student Support Time Dashboard to see if a teacher has requested them during Lunch and Learn.
This is the video that was shared with students in advisement in August. Because this is new for our Longhorns, we would appreciate your help at home with conversations about utilizing Student Support Time during Lunch and Learn!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
While we understand absences are occasionally necessary for students, we implore our Lambert families to make class attendance a priority. There are numerous reasons for this:
- School attendance is vital to academic success. The research behind academic achievement and school attendance is undisputable. Our state and district leaders put laws and policies in place to support this correlation.
- Our attendance rates impact our CCRPI scores. This means that we are evaluated, as a public school in Georgia, based on our attendance rates. Lambert is a premiere school, and we want to maintain that standing.
- Our district publishes school calendars well in advance for families to make travel plans, and we have many long breaks throughout the year, in addition to a long summer, for extended trips.
- Student attendance is a spotlighted data point at the top of student transcripts for colleges to consider in the application review process. Colleges want students with healthy attendance practices.
Before asking the LHS Attendance Office to excuse an absence, please consult the list of approved reasons, determined by state law and FCS Board Policy, HERE.

A MESSAGE FROM 3RD ASCENT
Parents & Students,
We are always working hard to communicate clearly and effectively with our students and their families. To that effort, we are asking each and every family for all grades to please register with 3RD ASCENT | HERFF JONES, our Partner in Education for all things related to student recognition and achievement. They are already scheduled to be on campus throughout the school year and need to be able to communicate with you about the various opportunities your student will have to interact with them specific to Letter Jackets, Class Rings, and Graduation related items. Once registered, in addition to school reminders, you will also receive a simple text and/or email reminder from 3RD ASCENT & HERFF JONES with the information you need to be prepared for their visit. These reminders will sometimes communicate very important deadlines and order information specific to our school, so please be sure to register today or by the end of this week.
To visit their registration page, please scan the QR Code on the attached flyer, or simply go to this link.
Thank you for helping us help you by being as informed as possible.

AUGUST TEACHER AND STAFF SPOTLIGHTS
Please join us in celebrating two outstanding Longhorns for the month of August!
Cristina Wardrip: Mrs. Wardrip stands out as one of the most positive and dedicated members of the Lambert family. She serves as our Gymnastics Head Coach, and despite already being a phenomenal teacher, she is always fully engaged in professional learning and eager to try new things and continue to grow. She’s also such a great contributor to our NEO team, and the relationships she builds with students is nothing short of stellar. Mrs. Wardrip - thank you for being a model of what it means to Lead, Live, and Love well.
Bianca Avila: Most of our counselors service a caseload of around 400 students, and ensuring each and every student is on track to graduate, has a schedule that aligns to their credit needs, elective preferences, and the other details is a significant task. Mrs. Avila was a huge help to her teammates as we got the year underway, working through scheduling conflicts both on her caseload and theirs. She also just helped coordinate the Peach State Tour - welcoming four of our state's top universities and over 600 attendants to hear and learn from them. She epitomizes our Core Belief that Teamwork Makes us Stronger.

This month, in honor of September 11th, consider spending time together to honor the spirit of sacrifice made that day and the sacrifices that continue to be made by community members, first responders, and members of the armed forces and their families.
