Fun in Science & Technologyπ
Second graders have been studying erosion and did an activity to make a canyon.
Canyon activity at work.
Kindergarteners have been exploring pushes and pulls. They have played mini golf, bowled, made hot wheels tracks and acted as "wrecking balls" to knock down "walls."
Bee Celebrations π
Each month at Centerville Elementary School, our students and staff learn about and practice a new "bee" skill both inside and outside of the classroom. Students earn "bees" when demonstrating that particular skill and we have a school wide assembly at the end of the month to celebrate. Our "bee" skill from December is being grateful. All of us here at Centerville Elementary School are grateful for your continued support.
S.E.L. Strategy of the Month π
For this month's SEL skill, we are encouraging students and families to try journaling or coloring as a way of expressing themselves. Sometimes, it can be challenging to articulate how we are feeling by speaking with someone. To help with this challenge, we can use alternate methods of expressing our feelings. Drawing and writing offers another alternative to express ourselves. According to research, this form of coping skill can captivate the soul, body, and mind in ways that verbal expression cannot. At Centerville Elementary we offer our students many ways to express themselves. We believe that teaching these skills will encourage the growth and development of successful learners and community members".
First Grade Storyteller π
Len Cabral captivated first graders and their families with his incredible storytelling skills.
Skating into our Growth Mindset π
News from the Health Office π
Please remind your student to continue to wash hands as this is one of the best ways to help prevent illness. After making memories with family and friends over the winter break there usually is an uptick of sickness when returning to school. A reminder to keep your student home for 24 hours if they are not feeling well with a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Please continue to contact the health office if your student will be absent. Please see attached link for winter respiratory guidance.
Winter is quickly approaching and with that it is important that students have extra layers for the inevitable cold weather, as we try and get out for recess to exercise as much as we can! Hats, gloves, sweatshirt, or long sleeves with a jacket are always encouraged. Accidents and spills can happen to anyone. Please pack extra clothes in your students backpack for when it may be needed.
Have a healthy holiday season,
Nurse Santos & Nurse Paige
Lost & Foundπ
Some of our lost and found items have been claimed, but many have not. All lost and found items are being housed in the front lobby. Feel free to come and look for your child's missing items.
Holiday Door Decorating Contest π
Excitement for the holidays is shared amongst all here at CES. To spread a little holiday cheer, both staff and students together participated in a door decorating contest. Check out some of the decorated doors from our very talented and creative staff members and their students.
Message from Mrs. White π
In his 1926 classic, βWinnie the Pooh,β A. A. Milne wrote, βPiglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of gratitude.β He was grateful for all he had in his life; great friends, a warm place to sleep and a few tasty βhaycornsβ to eat. As 2024 comes to an end, and we break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Centerville an amazing place to βbeeβ. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most importantly, our students. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and make some new memories. See you in 2025!
Fondly,
Mrs. White
