Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
World Teachers' Day, celebrated on October 5th, is a time to honor the invaluable contributions our teachers make to society. Teachers are crucial partners in our students development, guiding students academically, socially, and emotionally. Our teachers create a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive, offering personalized support and encouragement that helps them grow into confident individuals. I am grateful for all of the teachers we have at NCS and the endless hours of work, worry, and effort they put into their teaching.
This week, we practiced another fire drill with the help of Yellowhead County Fire and a bus evacuation! Our students showed great listening skills and are well prepared for these events. Next week on Thursday, Yellowhead County Fire is coming out to do a presentation with students for Fire Prevention Week.
We have opened an our online store for people to purchase Knight Spirit Wear! If you are interested in checking it out, please use the link below, they could make great Christmas gifts or just something extra. We love to see people supporting our school. NCS Knight Spirit Wear.
Our Turkey Trot is coming up on Friday to help us all celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend. I am looking forward to seeing all of the fantastic turkeys show up!
On Monday, Alberta Health Services will be out to talk to the grade 6 and 9 students for an information session about immunizations. Forms for students to sign up for immunizations were sent home this week, please return them to the office as soon as possible. Immunizations are scheduled for October 24.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Bailey Benson

Learning in Action
Daily 5 in K/1
The K/1s have been working on building their Daily 5 skills as well as implementing the UFLI programming. Students are working on reading to self and building their reading stamina. They are also working on writing where they practice their printing and letter sounds, and small group UFLI lessons which are focusing on students recognizing and listening for different vowel sounds they hear in words.
Design Drawings
Weekly Math Games
Each week, the K/1s play a different math game focused on their math concepts. This week, they were playing race to the top where they count their ten frames and try to beat their partner.
Building a Zoo
In science, the grade 6 students are working on designing a zoo to include different parts of an ecosystem and the grade 7s were exploring bacteria using our microscopes.
Space Jam
In Drama, the 8/9s played space jam where they worked with a partner to try and avoid all of the obstacles. One partner had to use either verbal cues or physically guide them but not both. They had a blast trying to navigate it all!
Knight Awards
"Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." ~ Napoleon Hill
Our Knight Awards theme for the month is to Grow! A few things we look for, promote, and model for our students,
- Perseverance: Continuing to work hard and not giving up, even when faced with challenges or setbacks.
Respect: Valuing others’ opinions, treating people kindly, and following school rules and expectations.
- Curiosity: Showing a desire to learn more, asking questions, and exploring new ideas beyond what is taught.
- Responsibility: Taking ownership of actions, being accountable for schoolwork, and managing time and tasks effectively.
- Empathy: Understanding and caring about others’ feelings, and supporting peers in a compassionate way.
Volunteers
We are grateful for all of the volunteers we have in our school and hope that you continue to volunteer in this year. We have many programs like reading buddies, hot lunch, sports concession, field trips, and more which are able to run because of volunteers!
If you plan to volunteer for more than ten hours over the course of the school year, you will need to ensure you have a criminal record check with vulnerable sector, Forms AP 401 and AP 402 on file at the school. Criminal record checks are good for two years, the forms need to be completed annually. If you are unsure when your record check expires, you can contact the office and we would be happy to let you know. The forms have been attached and are available in the office.
