Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.

February 7, 2025
This week we welcomed our Principal Intern, Ms. Aprell Reid to Lutherville. She has jumped right in and connected with staff and students and shared how joyful and focused she finds our school. We were out of the building on Tuesday at the BCPS Principal's Meeting, where I was asked to share many of the practices our staff and school use to activate student learning, build positive, inclusive culture, and engage our community. It was a great opportunity to reflect on, appreciate, and share, what a special staff and community we have here.
February is Black History Month, in our continued recognition of history and heritage months, this month teachers will share a read aloud focused on Black history and excellence, we will again partake in Arts for Learning Maryland's Blacktastic virtual assembly, and students in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to attend Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts' Black History Month Assembly. Permission slips went home this afternoon for the field trip. Below is another opportunity from the Lutherville Black Legacy Committee. Members of the committee shared their experiences attending Lutherville Colored School #24 and integrating BCPS schools with our staff in October. Below is an opportunity to attend a presentation here in Lutherville on Saturday February 15th.
With the Inclement Weather day on Thursday, we have now exhausted our traditional weather day closures for the school year, and future weather days will include virtual learning on a 2-hour delay schedule. Additional information and details are below, including attachments.
Finally, Marking Period 2 Report Cards and Progress Reports were sent home with students today. They are also available online through the Student Focus Parent Portal.
Finally, we are beginning to get advertisements for summer camp opportunities and will be attaching them to the newsletter for interested families. This week we have Caliday and Camp Rock. Both do fill quickly, so if you are interested we recommend acting.
Have a great weekend, and GO BIRDS!
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

LL and BCPS Climate Survey
Climate Survey
If you have not already, please take just a couple of minutes to complete the BCPS Climate Survey (available in 20 languages). This gives you an opportunity to offer feedback on both Lutherville Lab and the system as a whole. Getting your feedback is really important to us here at school to help us gauge strengths and growth opportunities. Thank you for your time and input!
Virtual Learning Information
BCPS has used all 3 of our allotted traditional inclement weather days. Should we have another inclement weather day we will have virtual learning.
BCPS's plan, approved by MSDE, requires 4 hours of learning with a 2 hour delayed start to the day (to allow teachers to pivot their instructional plans to the online environment.
- Attendance is taken and counts on Virtual Learning days
- Core instruction continues for students growth and achievement
Teachers have been practicing accessing and using Google Meets with students. Their codes (following the protocol of LL + Last Name) are posted on their Schoology page. Students can access Meets by opening a Chrome browser on their device and clicking on the "BCPS Links" folder where a direct link to Google Meet can be found.
“Gym-NEWS-ium” PE News and Notes from Mr. Bruns
Kids Heart Challenge
This month we will be, once again, participating in the “Kids Heart Challenge” to help raise money for the American Heart Association.
Students participating will join our “Kids Heart Challenge” special event during the school day in late February and get moving with fun activities, learn about keeping their hearts and brains healthy and feel great about helping others. Not only will you be helping fight heart disease and stroke (the No. 1 and No. 2 killers worldwide), but participants can earn thank-you gifts. We appreciate all your help and please scan the QR code for more information and to join our school. Please submit donations to the American Heart Association by February 21st.
