Walk, Bike & Roll To School - Wednesday, May 8th: Next Wednesday, Hidden River will participate in the spring "Walk, Bike & Roll To School" day. If you are able, try to plan on getting to school by walking, biking, or rolling (skateboarding, scootering, roller-skating ... there are lots of ways to roll to school!) Usually get a ride? Maybe you could get dropped off a few blocks away!?! If you're participating - look for volunteers handing out "I WALKED OR ROLLED" stickers as you approach the school. You can show your sticker to staff by the bike racks in exchange for a healthy snack.
Volunteer/Donation Request: This week is a big week at Hidden River as we celebrate "Walk/Bike/Roll to School Day" on Wednesday morning, May 8th and Educator Appreciation Week wraps-up on Friday, May 10th with a snack bar (and chair massages) for our staff, sponsored by our Family-Staff Organization (FSO). Could you donate a little time on Wednesday morning, or some snacks for our teachers on Friday? Sign-ups and more details below.

Principal's Note
Hello Hidden River Families!
As we enter the last month of the school year, it is always a great opportunity to express how grateful I am to work with you and your student(s)! Our partnership is important to their academic success. I am also grateful for the amazing staff at HRMS who do a lot of amazing work to encourage, engage and model the effort it takes to be successful!
This coming week is Educator Appreciation Week. The administrative team and our FSO have some appreciation activities planned to honor ALL our educators (Teachers, Counselors, Social Workers, Custodians, Nurse, Intervention Staff, Educational Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Office Staff and Nutritional Services). A note of appreciation to an educator goes a long way to making an educator's day. I would encourage you to reach out to a staff member or members who make a difference in your student's life.
Sincerely,
Teresa

AVID COLLEGE FAIR
The sixth annual college fair at Hidden River Middle School is approaching quickly! The purpose of the college fair is to educate students and families about options for the future. Here are some details to know:
1. The college fair will be held in the library during the school day on May 13 and 14. ALL HR students will have the opportunity to attend with their math classes.
2. AVID students will be excused from classes to work one of the two days. They are responsible for any work missed in their regular classes.
3. Families can attend our evening college fair on May 16 from 4:30 to 5:30 and then are invited to join us afterwards in the cafeteria for dinner and/or literacy night activities!
Please reach out to Melissa Hart at melissa.hart@spps.org if you have any questions.
6th Grade ABC Countdown
6th Grade Students will be celebrating the Last 26 days of school with the ABC Countdown. Please look at the attached ABC Countdown sheet and participate as you choose!
Tech Tips
This week in Foundations, all students will have all of their iPads signed out again. Mr. Sheridan, the librarian, and I will go to all Foundations classes and simply scan the iPads into our inventory system. We will also check for iPads that need to be repaired (i.e. cracked screens). Please help by making sure your student brings their iPad to school this week, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you.

Spring Math and Reading Screening
Between May 5th - 24th, Math and Reading Screening will be taking place in ELA and math classes. These screeners will help us understand your child's growth in mathematical thinking and reading. As a reminder, students will need fully charged iPads and wired headphones/earbuds. Do you have questions about the screening/testing we do at Hidden River? Click this link for more information.
Math Corps - Summer Camp
Hi Hidden River Families,
I wanted to share this information about a Math and Computer-Science focused summer camp at Macalester College (right next to Hidden River) that is Free for SPPS students entering grade 7. This camp is Monday-Thursday July 8-August 1 and is from 9:30-2:30. A breakfast and Lunch will be provided by the College. It is run by Macalester professors, Macalester students, and paid high school students (so if you know of a high school student interested in STEM and Math and looking for a summer job - this could also be great for them!)
For more information please look here at this website: https://mathcorps.org/locations/stpaul/
While the name is “Math Corps” this is not related to the Math Corps that we have been offering at Hidden River, this camp is designed for all students, regardless of academic record or past math performance and includes both fundamental and enrichment classes.
The application deadline is end of May - coming up quick, and can be found at that same website above.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
Thanks,
Ms. Pineda Johnson

Week 28 Provide Support (Navigate)
This Week’s Focus: Guide each other through hard situations and systems. This is a great way to PROVIDE SUPPORT through family relationships.
When you have a few minutes, ask other family members a question or two. Enjoy the conversation!
Who do you admire who has overcome really hard stuff? Why?- Which of your elders or ancestors had to overcome tremendous hardships? What or who helped them?
- When you’re struggling, do you most need a cheerleader or a coach? Why?
- Who do you go to when you need advice and support? Why?
- Where do you feel most safe and supported when you are going through a hard time? Why?
