Principal's Message - Mr. Stoney
Dear Mary M. Knight Families and Community Members,
As we begin November, I'm excited to share several meaningful initiatives and opportunities that showcase our commitment to both character development and community service.
This week kicks off our annual Penny Wars competition, running November 4th-8th. Our elementary and secondary students will compete to raise funds for the Gary Sinise Foundation. I encourage all families to support this worthy cause by sending loose change with your students. It's a wonderful opportunity for our OWLS to demonstrate their giving spirit while engaging in friendly competition.
Looking ahead, our Skills USA team will be conducting their Thanksgiving food drive from November 11th-15th, with all donations benefiting the Matlock Grange. This student-led initiative exemplifies our mission of developing successful citizens who contribute positively to their community.
I'm particularly pleased to announce the start of our elementary Character Strong program's focus on Gratitude for November. This timing couldn't be more perfect as we enter the season of thanksgiving. Parents, please take time to review the grade-specific Gratitude newsletters sent home this week to learn how you can reinforce these important character-building lessons at home.
For our young athletes, middle school basketball begins this Monday, and we're excited to announce our Saturday youth basketball program starting December 7th. This free program for grades K-8 is an excellent opportunity for our students to stay active and develop their skills.
Please note that there will be no school this Friday, November 8th, though our high school football team will be competing at 3:00 PM.
Congratulations to our GRIT award recipients for the week of October 28th: Sunny Baughman, Axel Silvan-Ramirez, Chloe Finch, Jacee House, Aaliyah McCartney, Xavier Lingnaur, and Lana Riggs. These students continue to exemplify the Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity we value at MMK.
Don't forget to check out Mrs. Chambless's November newsletter for updates on elementary music and PE activities. As always, you can stay connected with all school events and information through our Mary M. Knight District App.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a community of learners and leaders.
Go OWLS!
