March is Reading Month Kicks Off
Superintendent Jason Mellema and Mike Lilly, Executive Director of Information Technology Services, recently visited Beekman Center to spend time with students and share engaging stories in the classroom. Their visit brought excitement and joy as they took on the role of guest readers and captivated students with their storytelling. Both students and staff appreciated the opportunity to connect with these district leaders in such a meaningful way.

If you have information or materials to send to another Ingham ISD building or local district, it is important to have it in your outgoing tote on Monday, March 17, to allow for pick up and delivery to its destination on Thursday, March 20.

Teacher Appreciation Video Project
Teachers make a lasting impact on students, and now is the perfect time to say thank you! The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is inviting students to share their gratitude by submitting short videos for the MDE 2025 Teacher Appreciation Video Project. These heartfelt messages will be featured on MDE’s platforms throughout May, Teacher Appreciation Month, showcasing the incredible educators who make a difference every day.
We encourage families, community members and schools to spread the word and help students participate. This is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for the teachers who inspire, support and guide our children.
Help us recognize Michigan’s dedicated educators! Find specific details on how to participate here.
FAFSA is Open: Don’t Miss Out on College Financial Aid
Families with college-bound students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to secure financial aid. It determines eligibility for grants, work-study, loans and scholarships, and many schools require it for funding consideration.
Who Should Complete the FAFSA?
- High school seniors planning to attend college or technical school
- Current college students renewing their aid
- Adults considering further education
How to Get Started
Families and students can complete the FAFSA online at studentaid.gov. The process typically takes under an hour, and applicants will need basic financial information such as tax returns and income details.
Encouraging FAFSA Completion
School staff, counselors and community members play a vital role in encouraging students to apply. Whether it’s through direct reminders, offering FAFSA completion events or simply spreading awareness, helping students navigate this process ensures they have access to the financial support they need for their future success.
The bottom line: Don’t wait! Completing the FAFSA early gives students the best chance at securing financial aid. Encourage families and students to take action today.
