Testing - What All Parents Should Know
School grades ranging from A through F are assigned to individual schools each year based on a two-part formula made up of a school's achievement score and growth score. The majority of the grade comes from the achievement score (80%) while the remaining part of the grade comes from the growth score (20%).
Achievement scores are produced mostly from the EOC exams and their related NCEXTEND1 alternate assessment versions. A school's growth score is an indication of the progress students have made over the previous year. The standard expectation is roughly equivalent to a year's worth of expected growth.
School grades at the high school level are comprised of the following:
- EOC NC Math I*
- EOC NC Math III*
- EOC English II*
- EOC Biology*
- EL (English Learner) progress on language proficiency test
- 4-year cohort graduation rate
- G12 students who have passed NC Math III
- Scores on ACT/WorkKeys assessments
As we continue to work hard in the classroom, please encourage your student to come to school everyday ready to learn. That includes having the proper supplies, completing outside assignments, being in class each day and knowing they CAN succeed. Together we can show the county and the state what a special place school we have at AHS!
