Need to Know
September Veritas Students of the Month: We are proud to honour students each month, nominated by teachers, in recognition of going above and beyond Veritas culture. Congratulations to the students: Nicolas Menard (8-2), Artin Shayesteh (8-2), Zach Delice (7-1), Bowie Ellis (8-3), and Sal Labib (8-1). We thank them for their outstanding contributions! Wear your Golden Tie with pride!
Sign up for Winter Phys. Ed.! At this time, we ask students to sign up for the November - March winter Phys. Ed. term. Options are presented in this Winter Phys. Ed. options form. Please read the form carefully for scheduling details and course information. Every Middle School student should submit this form before Tuesday, October 8. (Even hockey players already training with teams are asked to complete this form.)
Basketball tryouts: All Grade 7&8 players who are interested in playing basketball need to attend the tryouts on Sunday October 20 from 8:30-11:30 am in the Speirs gym. The gym will be open at 8:15. Bring a water bottle and a healthy snack. If needed, a second tryout date will be announced after the first one is complete. We encourage everyone who has an interest to participate! There are multiple team options and having everyone try out together will give coaches a better idea of how to accommodate as many players as possible on the available teams.
Laptops and Chargers: Students use their laptops as an educational tool every day, but they are only effective if they are charged! We encourage students to charge their laptops at home overnight and leave their chargers at home if possible. We are asking students to check their SHS issued chargers (at school and at home) to ensure they have their own. Their names have been engraved onto them but they can difficult to identify without careful inspection!
True to Your School: A Community Service Initiative. To encourage the Middle School students to develop a sense of responsibility and pride in the school, we have implemented a new community service project for Grade 8 students titled, “True to Your School”. Grade 8 students will be assigned tasks in two sessions: the Macauley and Speirs Houses will perform their tasks/services from October - January and the Wanstall and Lucas Houses will carry out their services from February- June. The tasks take place in school and mostly take part during the school day. Students have been matched with a staff member who will support them in their responsibilities. At the end of every month, during TAG, they are expected to reflect on their experience.
Grade 7 Outdoor Ed Trips: Into the WILD is a two day, one night intro to survival in the outdoors. This Consent Form should already be submitted. Please reach out to Julian Geisterfer (outdooreducation@selwyn.ca) with any questions about the Packing List and Student Groups and Schedule.
