Please Do Not Bring Your Pet to School
We know that pets are a huge part of many families. However, please do not bring your pets to school. Student arrival time and dismissal time can be a very anxious time. Bringing your dog or cat when you are walking on campus to pick up your student can be very sensitive for some kids and adults. We do not want anyone accidently bitten or scratched. Safety first.
Thank you for supporting our kids and families by keeping your dogs and pets at home.

Aramark, our food service provider, is running its Student ViewPOINT survey. They invite parents and students to take this survey together. Your feedback will help enhance our food service program and better meet student needs and expectations. The survey is open until May 13, 2024. Go to www.StudentVP.com and enter passcode 2024.
Important Security Notice: The Detroit Police Department has alerted us to a deceptive scheme targeting senior citizens in our community. Please share the link to this letter in your newsletters.
Take Charge of Your Internet: To ensure all students have the access they need, the State of Michigan is conducting a Broadband Mapping Challenge, which can help secure federal funds to expand quality broadband to homes in our district. Michigan residents can visit the website to check the map for their home address and submit necessary corrections to the state internet map. This program may be the best opportunity to get all of our students and families online. Link to PDF
COVID Tests Available: We are excited to announce that our district has received a generous donation of COVID tests from Wayne RESA. These tests are now available at our schools for families who may need them. We want to reassure you that the availability of these tests does not indicate a rise in COVID cases within our district. Rather, it reflects our proactive approach to maintaining the health and safety of our school community.
Please note that these tests have an expiration date in September. While we hope they won't be needed, we want to ensure you're aware of this timeframe. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success
The Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM) is preparing for their third annual Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge - a virtual, free, state-wide aerospace competition for girls in 4th-8th grade - this Fall from October 12th - November 9th! Registration will open in July.
The Flight Challenge is a fun, creative way for students to learn about a career in aerospace; ultimately strengthening the talent pipeline in Michigan. Keep reading for more details on the event.
- Students participate in groups of 2-6 - they choose and register with their group.
- Teams are challenged over a 4-week period beginning in October to design a sustainable flight vehicle to solve any problem of their choosing. Additional details will be communicated in the coming months.
- Students will navigate subjects of engineering, design, finance, marketing and business planning.
- Through the Challenge, students will have an opportunity to meet with women who work in aerospace across Michigan, learn about their role in the aerospace industry, and ask them for advice on their project.
The Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge is broken into two main events along with 4-weeks of independent group work. The Virtual Kick-Off Event will be on October 12th featuring keynote and mentor speakers and serve as a platform to answer any questions. After 4-weeks of group work and meeting with mentors, the girls will come back together for the Virtual Final Presentations on November 9th.
- Every participant will receive an event t-shirt and WAIAM will award prizes valued up to $1,000 for the top teams.
This event is entirely virtual and free to attend because we don’t want anyone to miss out on this astronomical opportunity! Stay tuned for our registration announcement in July. Teams will need to register with their group name and members.
The goal of WAIAM’s MGFFC is to strengthen the talent pipeline, educate students on the industry as a whole, and show them that you do not have to be an engineer to have a great career in aerospace!

IMPORTANT: Picking Your Child Up Early from School
We respect that some appointments or obligations will require you to pick-up your child(ren) early from school. If you have an appointment and you must pick up your child early, please expect delays and please come before 2:45 pm. In the spirit of safety, our dismissal process involves all staff and it is very difficult to have staff get a student early from their classroom and bring them to the office between 2:45 and 3:20 pm. Please refrain from picking-up children early from school. This greatly affects our safe and efficient dismissal process. We do not have extra staff to easily get students from class prior to our 3:20 dismissal. Thank you for your continued support. Go Roadrunners!
Student Birthday and Holiday Snacks
Birthdays and holidays are very important. We understand and respect that parents want to send things to classrooms to celebrate birthdays. We encourage families to send fun pencils, books, fun markers, stickers...etc. In the spirit of safety, do not send food items such as cupcakes and cookies to celebrate birthdays. We are a NUT FREE school. Thank you for supporting safety.
