Family Resources and Information on Immigration
There is nothing more important to LCPS than the safety of our students. We have heard from members of our community with concerns and questions about how students attending our schools and their families may be affected by changing immigration information. To support our community, we are providing family immigration resources on our website where our community can learn more.
Public schools provide all children living in the U.S., regardless of their immigration status, free and equal access to education. Our exemplary staff shows up each day to ensure our students get an educational foundation that makes other opportunities and careers possible. LCPS is committed to ensuring that all students feel safe attending school.
School Board Approves Proposal for Establishing a Recovery School
During the Tuesday, Jan. 14 School Board meeting, the Loudoun County School Board voted to approve LCPS’ proposal for establishing a recovery school and directed LCPS staff to proceed with planning for the school. The recovery school will be designed to support students who are in early recovery from substance-use disorders. Students in the program will work toward their high school diploma while receiving additional layers of support in their recovery journey. This school will open next school year for a limited number of LCPS students. The recovery school will provide students the space to continue to progress toward a high school diploma while at the same time providing essential services to support the students’ recovery journey.
Planning for this school has been years in the making and is being embarked upon following a review of key data and discussions with community leaders and partners. LCPS worked closely with state legislators and advocacy groups to push for legislation prioritizing funding for a recovery school in the FY25 budget. Through collaboration with the General Assembly, LCPS has secured the resources needed to develop this comprehensive educational model. LCPS will continue to advocate with state and local government officials, community partners, and our school board to fund the LCPS Recovery School fully. Funding for the recovery school has been included in the Superintendent’s FY26 Estimate of Needs, which was presented to the School Board at the Jan. 14 meeting. See the Recovery School webpage for more information.
