Magyar's Message March 8, 2024
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS Families,
While our students were off today, our teachers and staff were busy with conferences as the end of the third quarter is coming fast.
March is Social Work Month and we celebrate and thank our school social workers, Kristin Acton and Lissette Means. A link to community resources for those needing any additional assistance is available on our website.
This week was busy in our schools as students in grades 5-10 heard a special presentation from nationally recognized speaker, Jesse Weinberger, on a very important topic, “Internet Safety.” The conversations with students were engaging and offered a lot of insight as to what our students are exposed to on their cellphones and computers.
Students also completed a brief survey which we provided to parents in advance of the student presentations. We encourage every parent/guardian to attend the upcoming Parent Information Night from 6 to 8 p.m. March 12 in the Avon Lake High School Performing Arts Center, 175 Avon Belden Road, sponsored by the North Coast Rotary Club, This event is for parents only and it will not be recorded.
The student data collected from the survey will be eye-opening for families. Below is a chart of some quick stats for families. The overarching theme for parents is this:
If you think this presentation doesn't apply to you - here’s proof that it does
The student data reflects the fact that Avon Lake students are engaging in exceedingly risky behaviors (just like kids all over the country)
Troy Intermediate School hosted a Career Quest Day yesterday (March 7) featuring more than 25 professionals/parents/community members passionate about their careers coming in to collaborate with the students. It was an opportunity for the professionals to share their knowledge and career insights to inspire and enlighten the students, and help them connect their classroom learning to the real world. Thank you to Katya Melott and the entire staff at Troy for hosting this wonderful event.
Congratulations and good luck to our ALHS bowling team members Atticus Alldredge, Cody Eckenrode, Sean Gallagher, Zachary Golden, Jacek Gomez, Ethan Miller, Austin Ramos, Luke Slogar, Cam Thorpe, and Jeffrey Toth, as well as wrestlers Rejan Alhashash, Destiny Cabot, Mallory Zadel, Clay Broadhurst and Will Schnabel, all competing for a State Championship this weekend.
We also have another State Champion to celebrate in our district. Congratulations to Claire Springer on winning the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) Division I state title in shot put last week.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
